Guest guest
As far as overall fitness is concerned, you need to do a combination of strength training and cardio. Walking is a great workout that almost everyone can do (as long as you're doing it fast enough to keep your heart rate up. Pump those arms and move those legs, ladies and gents!) BUT, you'll probably see faster & possibly better results w/ a more intensive workout. My weight was a-creepin' when I was just doing Curves in the morning. Now that I'm running 3.1-3.5 miles 3x's a week, I'm losing 1-3 lbs. a week. I'm still doing Curves 5x's a week, but for me, I really needed to kick it up a notch. 166/155/130 (all-time high 175) Question of the day 7/23 > Do you think that, in general, good ol' lively walking is just as > effective as aerobics class, swimming, or treadmills when it comes > to overall fitness? Guest guest
Depends what kind of fitness. And how much walking. A lady who walked daily had to have a bypass surgery a couple of years ago. I look at fitness this way: cardiac fitness nutritional fitness muscular fitness I think all three need to be addressed to stay healthy. cardiac fitness - cardio - most types of cardio are considered better than walking (unless a person speed walks or runs) because walking is so natural to us so after you get fit, it doesn't work your heart that much. Same with swimming daily... most swimmers do not get their heart rate up during a normal swim which may be way many of them swim Masters. nutritional fitness: Weight Watchers muscular fitness: weight training, Pilates, stretching, whole body resistance training. Cross training is the best for muscular AND cardiac fitness because it surprises your body and works it harder. Guest guest
I think walking is great as long as you up the intensity and/or distance as you become fitter. I also thing weight training is important, not just for saggy skin but it helps with things like bone density etc. I think the main thing with exercise is finding a few things you like to do and mix it up.
