Hey Mitch,

I totally agree with everything you said. I don't mind paying WW for the

things they provide, but I do object to their shutting down of WWcalc, and,

I often object to the high prices they charge for things like Just2Points

bars and smoothie mixes, plastic measuring spoons, etc. They have a good

hold on that market and they know it. But oh well, I guess that's capitalism

at its best, eh? I like those products, and so I continue to buy them,

grumbling all the while I write my checks! LOL!

It frankly never occurred to me to consider WW stock or options....I'll have

to get my husband to check into it!

How are you doing, by the way? Good I hope!

Thanks for asking, Bette. Doing pretty well on two fronts: First, I'm

slowly recovering from this pneumonia that hit me at the beginning of

November. I can't believe how long recovery takes. Mostly its' fatigue.

I wake up feeling good, but sometime during the day, I just kind of

" hit a wall " .... get real tired and need to nap. I've been working largely

from home, which gives me the flexibility to rest when I have to. Now,

I'm hoping all be past this to start the new year.

Second, after " fooling around " much of the spring, summer, and fall - kind

of watching myself, but not being totally on-program (thus, my limited

participation here), I've suddenly gotten a new-found motivation to re-reach

and exceed my low weight attained in February. Just " kind of watching

myself " has put on 23 pounds - not good! So, I've taken back off 9 of

those 23 and feel much better. Onwards and Downwards!!!!!

Mitch,

I'm sorry to hear about that pneumonia. It's amazing how long it can take

our bodies to recuperate from something like that!

I'm glad you caught the " refocus " energy after those 23 pounds...imagine if

you had let it go farther! Congratulations on taking off 9 of those 23!

I officially went on Maintenance at last Friday's meeting, since I've

" stalled " at a weight for 9 weeks now. It seemed that my body was telling me

to stop now. I had six prepaid coupons left, and Maintenance is six paying

weeks, so it seemed like a good time. LOL! (Yeah, I'm the practical type!)

But I'm struggling this week. Having my hubby home from work on a sudden

disability is throwing off my schedule, my life.... and my focus has

softened. I'm fighting it, but it's hard. There's probably something

psychological about being on Maintenance too...different focus, eh? What

amazes me is how the old habits can resurface so easily. I imagine you found

that true too. What a pain! After 18 months On Program, I thought I had

most of the old habits chained down.

I'm resolved to win at this. You too, Mitch!

I can understand why they shut down WWCalc, actually.

Imagine you'd put a lot of time and effort and money into developing a

program. It works and it attracted people in droves. One of your

customers decides he can do it on his own. Okay, great. Yeah. Good

luck to him!

Well he does do it on his own and he decides, out of generosity, to

share with other people the same plan so they too can stop paying. Who

would be interested? Online users mainly. Some people would say " Hey,

why pay when I can get it for free? " stop paying for the program, and

use this guys program.

It would be one thing if WWCalc just had a way to count points, but

the latest version included the food companion lists, the eating out

lists, baby food, etc. I mean it is a cool program and the guy is just

neat for working on it and sharing it...but even so, it's still

plagiarism. WWers owned the rights to the program, the books, etc. He

was incringing upon their rights to make money on the things they

developed. So I can completely see why they would say " Sorry Dude, you

can't do that. We own this stuff. " They lost customers to his program

and that's not really fair to them.

I do think some of their stuff is WAY overpriced, but they charge what

the market will bear. I've never had the Just 2 Points bars or any of

their other stuff except what you can get at the grocery store.

Honestly, I probably wouldn't buy it because I can get Quaker Chewy

Granola bars for 2 points and from what I've seen, they are a little

bigger. They are also WAY cheaper!

But, done by different people - independently. You can use the lists

without WWcalc. You can

use WWcalc without the lists. Michele did the lists

http://akasha.freeshell.org/ww/pilot/

Bob Withers did the program:
