meth? What exactly were you taking before (all meds) and what are you taking now?

Just NEEDING SOME INFO FROM FELLOW THYRODIANS ..LOL I just got off the 60 mg a day of meth.because my blood work came back and now i'm hypo( if only temporarily ) I have been off since last Monday and the muscle spasms and charlie horses have almost stopped ( thank God ) but now I am having some horrendous chest pains and my face is going numb is this normal ??? My hands are feeling tingly too,plese reply if you have any info tingly in Ky

I took PTU and propananol for almost the whole year of 2005 all the while telling my doctor that i felt like a warmed up turd and he just kinda said "well what do u want me to do ? " So i stopped the meds on my own and slowly started feeling better until March of 06 .I went back to family doc who took blood work and concluded my thyroid was overactive again. He wanted me to go back on the PTU which i absolutley refused so ....he started me on the Methimazole ( generic for Tapazole ) of which he gradually increased until in July i was taking 20 mg three x's a day. I went back to Endo in august feeling like warmed up turd again and he takes blood.. says,now my levels are too low from too much meds. that was the 23rd.I stopped meds on the 30th per the docs request and am on nothing until i go back to doc in Oct. to get new bloodwork. meth? I am not a Graver type, but have much experience of the hypo end. I would say the numbness , and tingles are hypo......and I would want to get in and test for it. This could mean your doc would tell you to curtail your dose of meth for a while....I suspect., so what you are doing makes sense. Do they ever offer you some thyroid support for times like these? ~E:) TOTAL-Thyroidectomy 26 months

Did the doc cold turkey you on that high of a dose or did the doc

lower it? Normally if the doc cold turkeys you the standard is for

three days and then to start back on a much lower dose..

Take your pulse? How high is it? You really need to make sure you do

not bounce back hyper too quick..

You are severely being mismanaged big time.. if your doc keeps

increasing your tap then I am thinking your doctor is going by your

TSH readings only and antibodies can and will suppress your TSH even

when your T4 and T3 are well within range..chances are you were

medicated extremely hypo and now your thyroid si not being blocked

at all you are going to bounce back extremely hyper..sort of like

when you are gardening and have a kink in the hose..Tap causes that

kink..too much of a kink and the water coming out of the hose

trickles to almost nothing..unfortunately if you remove the kink all

together you are going to get a full stream that has built up..

Oct is way too long to wait for a follow up..60 mg is used for

extreme cases only..usually in 4 -8 weeks the dose is cut in half

and then reduced to a maintnance dose of 5-15 mg to what ever is

needed to keep you in normal ranges and feeling better.

Yahoo also has a Grave's support board which I really reccomend you

check out..most people there are on PTU or Tap and can explain

dosing and labs...I understand only a little but I have never been

on them and they can explain what you need to do for proper

treatment.
