Guest guest
I HAVE a TV, but um, I don't know how to turn it on. Sigh. I try once/twice a year when there is some WLS special on. But we also have no antenna or anything. LOL! I haven't watched TV since 1987. Sucks your brains out. LOL! Actually, put the TV in a closet in 1982. Then my family talked me into having it back " sometimes " in 84, and suddenly, there it was. The Worship Center. I walked around the corner one evening and there was my family, Don & 2 teenage boys. They were all slackjawed, just sucking down whatever was coming out of the tube. I pulled the plug & rolled it down the hall into the closet again. They were, shall we say, less than pleased. And I grew up and raised my kids in front of it! While I was rarely firm about anything, there WAS no negotiating on that. By all means, I get upset every time I hear that I miss a fishing or hunting program (NOT) or how to cook same. Maybe I should just put a boot thru the thing so I don't need to worry about ANYTHING coming thru it, huh? Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. How come - you too busy cooking squirel heads and fish - LOL Alas - it's really too bad cause not only did you miss the Bachelorette show but there was a great show on cooking with fish. :-) I KNOW how disappointed you must be about missing that one. I'll tape it for you when it airs again. OK? Hugs, -rose
Guest guest
Years ago, when I was a PTA prez, my project was a Week Without TV. The kids loved it. We, including the kids, put together a booklet of a million things you can do alone and as a family instead of watching TV. The kids dove right in. They got the point. But the PARENTS!!! They were calling me crying about why should they have to give up their precious TV - as though there is nothing else in life. As though they couldn't occupy themselves for four hours at a stretch. As though they had no hobbies, friends, interests, outdoors things to do... As though they were afraid of being with their kids, alone, just a family together, even just talking. That week, I learned how cynical I am, when the parents said I was promulgating a leftist plot to brainwash them. Brainwash them!!! Cheers from Washington! Sharon in D.C. Re: No TV???? Guest guest
My kids love Nick - the Disney Network too - and I don't mind them watching those stations. I make sure that they play outside as much as possible though so their brains don't turn to mush. For CJ & I, it's CSI. ------------------------------------------------ Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.comR http://www.5dollarhosting.com (877)-838-HOST / .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Guest guest
we have no TV in our house, and like it. At first was an accident, something didnt work. I didnt get around to fixing it, and voila....kids were better behaved, I have 4...they read more, play together nicer, and we liked it, after going back to TV for a few months, we stopped it again. Guest guest
My experience, exactly. Everything was dandy, and then they talked me into renting a VCR (anyone remember those days) and it was so fascinating that they talked me into letting it stay out of the closet. When even *I* was planning meals & social life around TV, uh oh. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
I have two TVs and live alone. I have one or both on around the clock when I am home. The sound keeps me company. I rarely sit and watch anything except Trading Spaces and While you were Out. At night I fall asleep to a comedy program or a familar show. I guess things would be different if I had a roommate but I don't mind. Kathleen > My experience, exactly.
