Guest guest
Hi Terry, >>>I discovered my vit's had iodine last week, stopped taking them, and immediately felt a significant change in my symptoms<<< I can't believe that the vitamins they changed composition of on you did this to you! Well, yes I can, but what you have experienced is a lesson to us all about checking labels every single time we buy a product, even if it s a regular product for us. I hope when you say you felt a significant change in symptoms, you mean for the better! Guest guest
Hi Terry, I'm glad you figured that out before TOO long! Jody was talking awhile ago about a trusted vitamin company being bought out by a big corporate one awhile ago and how quality was going to the dogs because of it .. I don't remember the details, but maybe you are a victim of that? Jody, do you remember that? Anyway, hope you are feeling back to normal soon. Goes to show how just a little iodine can make such a big difference (and I am thinking it's more the artificial forms of iodine, rather than natural ones) Pam B. Guest guest
Hi Jody, Yup. Well, that's a qualified yes in the sense that I now feel slightly hyp0, which means I'm really getting better--and would love to drop dose a bit--but just had labs and promised I wouldn't. I actually have 'forgotten' my 1/2 and just had the 1 pill the last few mornings (5 instead of 7.5); I'm still taking the whole amount at night--just cause I have to get through this weekend, tomorrow is the town harvest festival, and I am in charge of food so we're feeding a couple thousand people in about 3 hours, all with volunteer labor. This is the 4th year I've done this and it doesn't get a whole lot easier. My feet hurt!!! I've promised myself I'd go back up to the full dose after, but it's a hard promise to keep. 15 mg. for the last 4 months, and finally I'm back in normal range but the endo says too far towards the hyper end of it for a dose drop yet (1.8 FT4, with the high normal range of 2). And the labs were not quite 3 weeks ago, too. Guest guest
Hi Terry, I remember when you did this town thing last year too! You have gumption lady! Have fun with it too. >>>I'm back in normal range but the endo says too far towards the hyper end >>>of it for a dose drop yet (1.8 FT4, with the high normal range of 2). And >>>the labs were not quite 3 weeks ago, too.<<< Well if labs were 3 weeks ago, the stopping extra iodine in vitamins, things could have changed already and you probably are approaching your hypO zone. I would get labs done again before moving that dose back up Terry. After coming out of such a horrible hypOhell for much of the summer....and I'm still coming out of it, I don't want to see anyone go there anymore. Was a big reminder of how far I have come, and to really understand where the hypO people are at now. I had forgotten just how horrible hypO could be. I am so happy that you are moving in the right direction again! After all this time, I hope you finally get to remission and a med free zone! Guest guest
Pam, You know, I have to agree with the artificial vs. normal hypothesis. I eat fish and seafood, and as long as I don't overdo it, I notice NO effect at all from it. Since I don't eat any processed food at all, I am not getting a lot of the junk from that (I figure they all use iodized salt). But it's just so, so coincidental that when I stopped the vit's, I started getting more hypo symptoms. On the other hand, I wonder if there was something else in there that could have affected me as well. I've taken a multi forever, just made me feel 'safe' that I was getting all the minerals and vit's, but I probably don't need to since I eat well...I've just been too lazy to figure out the proper ratios of all the individual things we need, and figured the multi was an insurance that I got at least a reasonable amount of everything. I mentioned the copper thing to my husband, and his response is: wear a copper bracelet if you're worried about copper. Also, his response (I told him about 's ithyroid site, how he things copper is the root of all GD) that single item supplements like that are not a valid way to look at health, he pointed out (probably right!) that if it were that simple, none of us would be sick. I'm so tired right now I'm babbling. I'm addicted to this group, and I really, really should be asleep with what's coming tomorrow but I can't get so behind here... dumb, huh? Guest guest
The brand of vitamins that I use to buy were called Solgar's. I have quit buying them because Centrum bought them out and are putting a lot of additives in many of the different vitamins. Talc is one of the additives, can't remember what the other was, but they were adding talc to my mag/cal blend. Guest guest
Hi again , yes please do share that when you find out - that sounds interesting! Are you taking replacement hormones as well as doing some natural stuff? Pam B. -- Re: Re: Terry Hi this is , My natropathic Dr. told me of a website that will tell you what companies are doing that and I'll get it from him Mon. if anyone is interested. He thinks I need to take natural iodine from seaweed for Hashimoto's but I'm still worried because my labs are normal.

Hi Jody, According to my chemical dictionary, talc is " a natural hydrous magnesium silicate. " There are 5 pages of different types of magnesium listed. Uses for magnesium silicate (talc) include numerous industrial uses, as a bleaching agent in animal and vegetable oils, and as an anticaking agent in foods. We've probably all eaten a lot of talc. My magnesium supplement also list talc as an ingredient. Bertta
