Lin,

I'm trying the neurontin again cuz if I recall the pain wasn't so bad. I'm desperate. My doc is not an RSD dr. just gen. I have a pain mgmt. dr. who really is only treating my scalp with injection every 6 months or so. He's a jerk. I'm going to request a different one. But mayo just doesn't want you to change dr. if you have seen one before. It's a pain to get dr.s changed. I feel like my docs. are running in circles some times. My reg dr. sends me to one for awhile and then to the other so we don't "burn out the two" as he says. Mayo clinic does not have RSD clinic or specialists. Closes is 50 miles away in Wis. I just feel so burned out with all of this.

Hope this answers some questions. Do you think it's a good idea to keep trying the neurontin?

Laurie,

Some people take Neurontin without any problems, so if it helps then that is good.

I was on 2700mg/day of Neurontin. It worked pretty well for my

pain, it controlled the electrical " zapping " down my leg, but didn't

do a lot for the chronic ache/burn/foreign skin feelings. The only

reason I stopped taking it (gradually, I might add) is that it was

turning me into a flipping moron. My short-term memory was erased

as quickly as a thought was entering my head. I got off the stuff,

my memory returned to normal and the pain came back. Unfortunately,

I have to work so, I manage the pain (and I'm in sort of a remissive

state so it isn't so bad right now) with Vicodin and a new med

called Cymbalta. I've been taking the Cymbalta for about a month

now. It was making me pretty fatigued, but that's passing. My

mood's become more positive and the depression that usually

accompanies chronic pain is subsiding. The jury's still out on any

actual pain relief (it's approved for diabetic neuropathy, so the

doc said " what the heck " and I'm checking it out). Laurie, the

bottom line is that medication is powerful stuff as we all know.

Also, there has been tons of recent controversy (not to mention

lawsuits) regarding off-label use of Neurontin. If you're taking it

properly and are being supervised for signs of seizures and the like

AND it's working, then God Bless you and Feel Better, darn it!

Peace, love and pain relief!!!

Donna - Not sure if it's all the meds they try on us, or have us on. Or if it's the RSD. But, I think that a lot of us do have elevated blood pressures now. I'm not taking any other meds, but I do have to take BP med now, and before the RSD I always had a "perfect" BP. So, my guess is that it's the RSD itself. Pam,

You'll make it--you have to believe that. If you feel totally out of control emotionally you really need to get help. I got to that point at the beginning of this year. It was really hard to admit that I had gotten to that point, but was forced when I couldn't promise my psychologist that I would be safe until the next time I came--not even three days. Didn't have any plans at the minute, just wasn't sure that I could hang on. It was so weird-my mind wanted to say "yes, I'll be okay" and absolutely couldn't. It was like God sealed my mouth knowing I needed the help. I am glad she was protective, even if I didn't want to have to go. My assoc. pastor wasn't surprised at all when she found out I was in the hospital. She had noticed on Sun. that things were pretty bad. Went in on a Tues. I'm assuming this is what you mean by not being sure you can hold on anymore. But I will pray for you since I

understand how you feel.

Love,

N.

Thats what Im figuring Tricia. I wasnt on any meds besides my

neurontin before the pressure went out of control. Now Im on

2.5 of altace which keeps it in check..when I was in for my

injections it was 132/110 now it stays normal at 125/70 with the

meds. Im not on much else now except for zoloft and ultram.

This monster just gets better and better every day...NOT :)
