Guest guest
Hi Kimmy, I am taking tamox too, but I just began and I am not getting my periods yet. Yet is the term since I do want them back... But those who are taking tamox should not get pregnant. I just had my Ob/Gyn insert an IUD to prevent pregnancy. Tamox can harm the baby and cause birth defects when it does not cause a miscarriage. Of course it is not 100%, but still the advice is to prevent pregnancy at all costs. Reason why I chose the IUD, since there is no other birth control available for me. I say this because I do not want my husband to get a vasectomy, I do not want to remove my ovary or stay on Zoladex, cannot take any hormonal birth control and condoms are not reliable for us. So, IUD. Anyway, do a pregnancy test before you get all worked up since it might only be an irregularity caused by taox. Then think about what you can do for birth control. According to my OB it is unlikely that I will get pregnant in the next few months, but I didn't want to risk it. And since it seems that you do not want to either, think about a birth control method that works for you. Hugs Not sure if anyone can help... Hi all, I know that most of you are very new to this disease and treatment... But I was wondering if any of you had ever gotten pregnant while on Tamoxifen? I have been very careful, and haven't had a whole lot of sex (to be honest) but my last period was october 6th. Since I have been on Tamoxifen (since Jan 1st 2006) my periods have been irregular. Most have been 21-23 days apart, but I did have one that went almost 5 weeks apart. I have just now, started to worry. I have a dr.s appt on dec. 6th and thought I would wait until then for a pregnancy test, but then again I feel I should buy one of those OTC's. Good Lord, I am 46 years old!!! I most certainly do not want to have a child! And I have no idea what the ramifications of tamoxifen will do to an unborn fetus??? Does anyone have info?? I think I will go to breastcancer. org and ask the question also. They have a very broad base of women who can answer questions, but I sometimes have a difficult time navigating my way around the website. But if someone has any knowledge of this, please let me know!! Thank-you... ......... ...kimmy ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Sponsored Link Compare mortgage rates for today. Get up to 5 free quotes. Tamoxifen messes with your hormones, so your ovaries are probably not " running at full capacity, " IF AT ALL. By all means, if you feel uncomfortable about this, call your onc. My guess is that he'll say the same thing. -Frances -- -Frances Bartels *** ki0dz@... Guest guest
Gosh Kimmy, What a predicament you are in. The first time I had bc I did the chemo are rad. My last chemo was in Feb and in Aug. I turned up pg. I was only 34 at the time. but I remember still having my periods all through chemo and rad. They didn't stop or even ease up. They just kept on coming. The docs were amazed but not surprised. Not very few women's cycle keep coming normal through chemo and stuff. Well, anyway I kept the pregnancy and have a fourth child. A wonderful son w/no complications from any meds. A little blessing from God. But it was a lot of worrying and testing. What the call a high risk pregnancy. Whatever you choose to do is strictly up to you given you age and the meds. I am 49 now just finishing up my 2nd round with bc and I could even fathom the thought of a pg at this point in time. Anyway I had a full hysterectomy when i was 38. Couldn't handle the periods and ovarian cysts. best of luck to you.
