Guest guest
Try CP25K and see how you like it. Remember, you don't have to be going at a breakneck pace to be a runner. You will definitely feel more comfortable as you lose weight...this is true, but you can start now. You might even try " race walking " first. That is very low impact, but much faster than walking. Go at your own pace. Define yourself as a runner, but don't base that definition on something that someone else does. Feel proud of EVERY run you do, even if it's only running half a mile and walking half the time, or even more. Find a 5k in your area that is in the early spring and put it on your calendar and train for it. You see women and men of ALL shapes and sizes at them! Seriously! That will help you focus your running into training, not just " working out. " Also recognize that it's not a smooth road to implement something new. Just like anything else, you might hit bumps. I very clearly remember one day when I stopped in the middle of the track, stomped my feet, started crying, and screamed, " I hate this! I hate running! Why do I do this to myself! " then stormed home. Last Wednesday I ran 13 miles and loved every single inch of it. If you hit one of those snags, take a few days off and think about whether you're having a bad day, or it really is just not something that is " you " . Have to say, though...I love thinking of myself as a runner because when I was 222 I so wanted to be one. I totally encourage you. If I can do it, you can do it. > Running > > > Hi everyone; > > I've got a question. Guest guest
Thanks Tory, for the encouragement. If it wasn't such a cheesy song...oh, what the heck. " did you ever know that you're my hero..you are the wind beneath my wings.. " Yah!! :>)Seriously I appreciate your advice and I plan on taking it. Maybe one day I'll be running triathalons just like you-except they would have to take out the swimming. I HATE swimming. :>)- > Try CP25K and see how you like it. Guest guest
, I think you'll be fine to start a running program, just remember to start slow and work your way up. My husband weighed about 240 when he started running, and he did way too much too soon and got hurt. He was trying to run too far and too fast. Just go easy, your body will be your guide. A good rule of thumb is don't increase more than 10% each week on mileage. I did the C25K program when I first started, and I thought it was great! I did alter it somewhat, though, by adding extra weeks (where I repeated the same workout as the week before) until I felt ready to move on to a more advanced week.
