Guest guest
Any tips on making the spring rolls? We've tried several times, but our results are nothing like at our favorite Thai restaurant. Re: Silly Question Asian Market stuff You can also get rice paper sheets for spring rolls, sometimes Japanese nori for sushi, chili sauces, and cheap vegetables. I especially like Renkon (Japanese name) or Lotus Root and Kabocha (Japanese name) or Green Pumpkin. You can also find hard rice oval mochi slivers if they have korean stuff- which can be cooked in sauces to be a kind of "dumpling". They also sometimes have gluten free miso (Japanese).>> We like the bean thread noodles, rice noodles and some of the sauces. We ask the owner to read the ingedients in Chinese to make sure they match the English and are gluten free. We can usually find coconut milk and the usual bamboo shoots and water chestnuts cheaper than at the grocery near us.
Guest guest
You're brilliant!! I never thought of using the splatter screen like that!! I can use that for other things too! Kathi --- doremusv wrote: --------------------------------- We've always just used steam. boil a pot of water and place one of those screens that protect from grease splatter on top of the pot. Just lay the rice paper on the screen in the steam. When it curls, flip it and steam on the other side. Once its soft put the mix in it and roll. You have to work quickly or the wrap will harden before you're done rolling it. After we have them all rolled, we deep fry them. I like them fried much better than " steam/boil " (or whatever some place do). Frying them gives them a crunchy outer layer and the wrap on the inside is chewier. Yum! I want to go home make spring rols now!! > > > > Any tips on making the spring rolls?
