Guest guest
I happened to run into my daughter's HS principal today - she is the upper school principal at WPSD. The high school class last year graduated with a reading grade level of 7.2. So whatever WPSD is doing with these students - and I think none of them had CIs - is working. I work for the US Navy as a civilian and was a tech writer previously....when we wrote Tech manuals for sailors, we targetted our reading grade level at Grade 8. The principal also told me that Mark is working w WPSD to track reading grade levels and improvement and actually is going to start bringing in other research (maybe the consortium of private schools serving deaf students). As the children get older, CIs will be considered because more younger students do have CIs, even at the deaf schools. By the way, I tried to do a google/ask jeeves search on reading grade levels for the average high school graduate. I think there are SO many variables and different states institute different reading programs. I will post to the list as I get more info.
