Guest guest
Hi-My son started treatment at 17 months, 6 days (to be exact). He has been wearing his DOCband for 10 weeks and there has been definite improvement. How much? I can't really say for sure, but things have definitely shifted for the positive. I personally would be thrilled with a 50% improvement, but I told myself that I would be glad to get 25-30% improvement. My son started out at 15mm of asymmetry, so I'm hoping for 10mm or better at the end. He has 6 more weeks to go, so we'll see. I would tell anyone who asked at this stage to go for it, it's definitely worth trying. Again, I'm happy with the change I've seen, so far, although I'm obviously hoping for more in the weeks to come. We kept getting the " it will round out " speech as well so I was glad to at least have the chance to do something about it, even if it was a little late. Does your daughter have any forehead bulging at all? I was more concerned with my son's forehead, that was really my main motivation for doing it. I also chose to go to Cranial Technologies over a local StarBand provider because they have a lot of experience with older babies, but was lucky to have two choices in the first place. If StarBand was my only option, I would have done it anyway. Would I have preferred to do this a year ago? You bet. But given the same circumstances again, I would band my son again in a heartbeat. Where are you located? What helmet options do you have? What is your insurance situation? Please feel free to ask me any questions you have and I'll try to help the best I can. Good luck! I know how hard it is being in your shoes right now. Guest guest
My son did extremely well from the very first day. He slept in it the first night without any problems and is now to a point where he will go get his " hat " from the dining room table on his own so we can put it back on each night after his bath. I just checked out the LOC Band online. In appearance, it looks more like a STARBand or Hanger Band, but they all work the same way. Is the provider of the LOC Band the one that said you could get 50% improvement? It looks like they only treat babies up to 14 months old. I see that you got some responses about STARBands being available in England. Have you looked into them yet? They will treat babies up to 18 months (to begin treatment), so they might be a better option. But again, it's whoever you feel most comfortable with. I would look for whoever has the most confidence and a positive attitude about beginning the process at a late age. Obviously, if you only have one choice in helmet, I would still say it's worth a shot at doing it, but if it's between 2 different ones, I would say go with the one you feel most confident with. Please keep us posted!
