Guest guest
Hi everyone, I've been lurking but not posting for the past few months. Last week my endo took me off of Tapazole as my blood work the last two times has been excellent on .5 mg every other day. So, fingers crossed that the next one is good too! My question is, I've suddenly developed a food allergy (we think it's cheese products but my appt. with the allergist isn't until Sep. 25). I get itchy hands, red, puffy hands/face, and blotches under my arms and on my neck. A benadryl will stop it, but that stops me! I never thought of reminding my internist about the Graves, but is there any history of this happening? I've never been allergic to anything in my life except as a newborn (in the late forties!) to cow's milk. Both cheese products were not real cheese, btw, one was a fat free product. Any suggestions, ideas? Jani
Guest guest
Hi Jani, I don't have an answer to your allergy question... but I'm hoping your doctor didn't stop the Tap cold turkey???? You need to wean off of it SLOWLY in order for the remission to stick... and you need to have your anbodies tested to make sure they are gone before you can expect remssion to stick... How long were you on Tap for total? Pam L and others can give you more details... Pam B.

Guest guest
Hi Jani and welcome. I'm playing catch-up with posts right now, but what occurred to me is that if they were not real cheese, you may be allergic to the fillers/substitutes they use to make it taste and act like cheese, not the dairy itself. I try to stay away from anything with chemicals in it, with hydrogenated fats as well, which are produced using terrible chemicals and bleaches and dyes. Jani, were you on .5 (as you wrote) or 5 mg. every other day? .5 is so microscopic an amount that you really don't need to worry. Even if you were on 5 mg. you don't need to worry. But before I stopped Tap I asked around and found that 5 mg. is a very low dose, sufficiently low that if you're doing that well you should be ok. BTW, it is most definitely possible to develop allergies later in life. Welcome and take care, Fay ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
