Hi, this is our first time using this site. and will be our first time to

see Dr. P I am taking my 4 yr. old son to see Dr. P on Wed. morning. We are

flying out of Austin, TX tomorrow morning. Can anyone recommend a hotel to

stay at? He has not been in a cast or worn his brace for 2 years. He will be

cast on Wed. It would be great to hear from someone that has gone through

this with their 4 yr. old. Will my son have a hard time adjusting? I guess

it probably depends on the child. thanks for any helpful comments.

Welcome, & Zach!

Zach is just 10 days older than my daughter, ! :)

If you are going to stay for the duration of Zach's treatment, you

might want to look into staying at the Mc House right by

the hospital. If they are full, they can give you a voucher for a

local hotel. Wherever you stay, ask if they have a hospital rate (if

you don't have a RMD voucher). Some people like the Red Roof Inn, I

like to stay at the Fairfield. All the hotels there are really nice

and all relatively close by (less than 10 minutes to the hospital)

off of 1st Ave. in Coralville.

It's hard to say how your little guy will handle the cast. You

probably won't know until you're there if they're going to apply a

full-length or walking cast either, huh?! He could think it's really

cool...or hate it... perhaps you could buy a bunch of fun markers

etc. to decorate it? There are a few families here who have recent

experience with re-casting for regression and ATTT with 3-4 year olds

(search the archives for " Kavan " and " Emma " and " Kassia " (kassia is

the mom's name, but it'll pick up the posts easier than Jake!)-

hopefully they'll see your post tonight and get back to you. If you

stay at the RMD house, you can get onto the computers and let us know

how you're doing!

I hope your flight goes well and Zach's treatment goes great. You'll

*love* Dr. P! :)

Keep us posted as you're able.

It's only $15 per night and they are so wonderful. Best of luck on
