I had 3 letters from my doctors.. a letter from a shrink... and a family profile... the approved me first go around.. I have BCBS... took about 4 weeks from my initial consult to get it... I had lap... I prayed.. oooh did I pray... I was SOOO worried I wasn't gonna qualify.. but I did... Not all surgeons have in their heads that proximals need the supplementation too. Therefore, if the surgeon you have chosen does proximals and says " get your protein from food " , just " nod " and say " okay " and drink a couple of shakes every day too. After all, it's people on this list who have " walked the walk " so to speak and find that they feel sooo much better with the shakes - and they " look " it too! Guest guest
Sophia - I would say wait a couple of weeks then call the insurance company to confirm that they have received your paperwork and ask how long it will take to know if you've been approved. A lot of the hassles have to do with the right dept. not receiving your paperwork so then you have to call the surgeon's office and make sure they get it sent to the right place, because it seems like the insurance company is not capable of transferring paperwork from one dept. to the next. It's a real pain in the butt. Good luck with it. Jeanne in WI Age 39 Open RNY - 5/21/02 Dr. Chua 5'7 " - 314/218/150-

Guest guest
Hey Sophia, I'm so glad you found the GBIC! It's a great source of information and support. I encourage you to call your insurance company and ask them if they cover WLS (weight loss surgery) and go from there. Sometimes there are hoops to jump through (providing weight loss attempts/diets, dates, etc.), and sometimes your surgery is approved based on your current weight (100+ pounds over your ideal body weight) and sometimes it's approved based on your current weight and other health problems called comorbities (co-morbs). About the protein shakes.. I encourage you to visit Mom Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks! had WLS eight years ago and started a company to provide support, information and nutritional supplements specifically for WLS patients. How cool is that..? There are a zillion products out there but I love Champion Nutrition's Pure Whey Stack and their ProScore 100, both in chocolate. Take good care and God bless your WLS journey. Guest guest
Hi!! Nice to meet you!!! I have found out more information on WLS in the past few days in this group that I have for a few months of research!! You are all so wonderful and informative. I have already ordered samples from Vitalady and from the email they should be here by March 5th. I am waiting! I called my insurance company before starting the whole process and they do cover the surgery. You just have to be morbidly obese for 5+years before they will consider it. Then you have to start jumping through the hoops. Where are you in VA Beach? My Aunt and cousins live in the Princess Anne area.. Sophia > > Hey Sophia, > > I'm so glad you found the GBIC!
