Guest guest
I've been asked a question via my website, which I haven't seen mentioned before. I was wondering if anyone in our group has seen research about the time between manipulations. Her premature daughter is being casted more quickly than the standard Ponseti method recommendation. Her first cast was on Tuesday, the 2nd on Friday (the 4th day). Dr Ponseti did an accelerated treatment for us because we were from out of town and he changed the casts every 5th day (Monday, Friday, Wednesday), but most other doctors seem to change casts weekly. She wants to know if the shorter time between casts is likely to make a difference. I'd guess not, because a preemie's feet are probably very flexible. But I'm not sure, because Dr Ponseti told us that he leaves the casts until the 5th day so that the ligaments stretch nicely. I can't see what the rush is anyway - apparently her feet are so tiny that finding shoes that fit might be a problem. I have suggested that she email Dr Ponseti for his opinion, but any feedback from this group would be appreciated! and 24th Jan 2003, bilateral cf www.clubfoot.co.za
