Can you turn off the sound on this one? The vibrating bed and light thing

would work for us, but not the alarm part. When Ian's old alarm went off -- and

it was LOUD, the rest of the house woke up but not him. I'm sure he could

hear it but was able to ignore it since it's not as loud for him as the rest of

us. But even loud alarms are not good for our household.

My daughter would wake up (over an hour before she needed to) and climb up

onto his bed, sit on top of him (being not very gentle or careful) and turn off

his alarm. If her clumsy, angry climbing over/on him didn't wake him, she'd

sit there and shake him and scream " Wake UP already " over and over again.

Needless to say, they were grumpy, and I woke up to fighting offspring, so I

was grumpy. It didn't make for very pleasant mornings. Now he has the

shake-awake in the pillow, and if he turns that off, my hubby literally shakes

him

awake and watches him stumble off to the bathroom just before leaving for work.

I've thought about adding a light-alarm, but wasn't sure how to do that.

Still, a pillow over the head would block the light. But at least it'd only be

in his room.

Thanks -- Jill

Hi to all.

I am currently looking for a vibrating alarm for my 8 year old. She wants to

wake up like her sisters. I was setting my alarm the other night and she wanted

to know what I was doing. So, I explained that I had to set it so it would wake

me up in the morning. Well, it turned into another teaching moment that I never

realized she didn't know or understand. I felt so bad because that night she

wanted to sleep with her CI on so she could hear the alarm go off in the

morning. Needless to say, the CI didn't stay on all night and she was SO

disappointed. I know now that it is time to get her own so that she can learn

to get up in the morning. One more step to independence that maybe she is

ready.

Any way, I went to Communications to look at them. There were so many

and so varying in prices. I just felt overwhelmed. I also am looking for a new

phone. She has a hard time hearing on the phone sometimes. I thought I would

just get an amplified phone but now I am also wondering if we should go ahead

and get one with tty as well. Since we have moved she doesn't get to talk to

her friends in VA because they can't talk on the phone at all.

No one ever told me I should have a dry and store for her CI either. I don't

know how I missed that little tidbit.

Any suggestions?

Tammy

mom to ,14 and ,11 both hearing and , 8 profoundly deaf but

with a CI does quite well.

We have the " sonic boom(s) " for both of our kids, one hearing and one not. I

bought one in a store and one from ebay or Comm, can't recall. It has a

vibrator that you place in the pillow or between the mattress and box springs.

It is also very loud and has a place where you can plug in a light that will

flash. We also have a " shake awake " but it is very small and looks like a

travel alarm. It vibrates or buzzes but the buzz in not loud. The sonic boom

shakers are much stronger than the shake awake is.

Jill, I'm pretty sure you can turn off the audible alarm, I'll check when I'm

at home. In fact, I'm almost sure you can because I can remember being in the

living room and hearing a weird rhythmic noise and finally figuring out it was

the Sonic Boom shaking the bed while Maggie was at camp. There wasn't any alarm

noise which is why I stood there trying to figure out where and what it was.

Hi Jill,

My daughter has the sonic alarm and always uses just the bed shaker

place between the mattress and box spring. It wakes her up every morning -

but she has already found the snooze button! We have never put on the sound

alarm and we have not used the light with it. You can choose what setting you

want.

That's it, I'm ordering the Sonic Boom ... off I go to Google it.

I don't care if it makes a buzzing or knocking sound. Our problem is any

music/alarm being so loud that our daughter climbs up onto the bunk bed,

roughly

climbing over Ian to turn off the silly thing. No one can reach it from the

floor, not even my tall hubby. So, climbing over him is the only quick

solution, and it's NOT a pleasant one. Ian found the snooze button the first

week

he had the Shake Awake ... he'll find that no matter which alarm we buy. But

it sounds like this one will wake him more thoroughly.

Last week, my hubby picked up the vibrating up off the floor where Ian' had

tossed it, and found the boy sound asleep and snoring. (sigh) Adolescents just

love their sleep!

Thanks everyone!

Jill
