Guest guest
How are you doing with the Armour Sue? It's been a while now hasn't it? I've just switched from the 100mcg Levo and 1/2 grain Armour, to 50mcg Levo and 1 grain Armour and I'm already feeling some improvement. I'm hoping that I've found a winning combination for me, but only time will tell... Judy What I had written was that I recently switched to Armour from the T3/T4 synthetic just to try it and see once and for all if it makes any difference in my life. I am trying to jumpstart my metabolism, which is really the only “hypo” symptom I have left............ ....” We have the perfect Group for you. Check out the handy changes to Yahoo! Groups. Guest guest
Hi Judy, My doc only started me on 1.5 grains two weeks ago and I went up to 2 grains this weekend...so far, I don’t notice anything, either way – not hypo or hyper...what kinds of improvement do you feel? My only real complaint has been and is...weight gain and a totally sluggish metabolism despite eating healthy and working out . That said, of course weight gain can cause: depression, high cholesterol, high blood pressure — all of which I have been treated for in the past ... It’s all in the mix! Guest guest
Geez, I thought it was longer than that. It can take a while. For me, it's more of a desire to do things, more energy to even think about doing things, including exercising. For example, last night I had an Armour outing with my hubby's work buddies and today I did some Armour vacuuming, rearranging, furniture repair and laundry LOL. Plus, I'm starting to think "hmmm what might I do this weekend?".. Guest guest
I know, I thought it was near a month myself! But I counted the pills and had 13 as of Sunday so it was two weeks this past Saturday and so I upped it to 2 grains. I have had high and good energy since the T3 was added as cytomel back in April and this has T3 so I am good to go there...just want to weigh what I should for how I eat, it sux to gain and / or not lose when you are being as good as I have been but — I have to say, I feel good most days — sleeping well at night – average 7.5 hours a night has been HEAVEN — and I love doing schtuff on weekends too Sue Geez, I thought it was longer than that. Guest guest
If you are positive the PA wants you on CYTOMEL ONLY, did he/she say WHY? Were all your levels fine EXCEPT your T3F if you know? I would double check to make sure they didn’t mean to add the T3. All docs say to take your meds the day of the test but many people say NO WAY, JOSE, And I have done it both ways within 24 hours of each test at the same lab and had no noticeable difference in results. My endo and regular doc both ordered Thryoid panels and my insurance covered both so I had the perfect chance to see if it really matters and it did not at all... It’s a personal choice on that one. What is your diagnosis and did you post your numbers? I belong to half a dozen various groups and am in biz for myself so I get over 300 emails a day and miss some...sorry if I missed yours! sue I will have to get my labs, Im not sure they are doing everything, just maybe the '4.3' number. Guest guest
Also just to clarify, in my opinion, you would want to ADD the cytomel not swap out —I did and my TSH went down under 1 within six weeks. Let your PA/doctor know that—it could be a miscommunication... And it helps with many hypo symptoms as well, in conjunction WITH the levo. Guest guest
I remember the first week I was on Armour... I went from being bedbound to jumping up 2-4 stairs at a time LOL and god, talk about energy... I could have powered a small country LOL. My husband was like...'umm... do I know you?' Guest guest
Hi , Had you been on any kind of T3 before, i.e. Cytomel or did you start right on the Armour? I have always been a high-anxiety, high adrenal type person so I don’t experience the fatigue many suffer from, but my hypo seems to be manifesting itself in weight gain. How long have you been on Armour; how much, and did you notice any weight loss? Thanks, Sue
Guest guest
At the start of my thyroid problems in Jan. 99 (diangosed then) I weighed about 150 I think... took synthroid immediately, my symptoms didn't improve and just got worse. When I was 18 I weighed 125lbs. At my heighest weight 2 years ago, I weighed 199lbs. I started taking Armour about 3 years ago and didn't take take anything for about 6 months before that. I decided that no meds was better than how I felt on synthroid LOL. After taking the Armour I believe I started in June of that year, I became pregnant that August which totally shot my body. I ended up having a DNC because of the complications I was having and it took a while for my body to readjust after that. It didn't occur to me to cut out my allergens until about 2 years ago. Mainly because I was too broke to afford not eating them & eating the healthy/natural food. When I could afford them more, I cut out more allergens. Then when they were all out, I started dropping weight & my metabolism woke up more. I've only since gained weight after adding things back in. I still have really bad external allergies (mold, mildew, grass, ragweed, pollen, etc.) but not eating the foods is helping a lot. I will probably meet with my allergist soon (or my fam. doc) for more allergy meds, since they kind of refuse the adrenal self treatment I'm doing. I hope that helps. I'm sorry my post is all over the place but the years between 99-2004 are kind of blurry because of the immense brain fog lol. andrea Re: Synthroid?Cytomel change over question Hi ,Had you been on any kind of T3 before, i.e. Cytomel or did you start right on the Armour?I have always been a high-anxiety, high adrenal type person so I don’t experience the fatigue many suffer from, but my hypo seems to be manifesting itself in weight gain. How long have you been on Armour; how much, and did you notice any weight loss? Thanks,SueOn 11/3/06 10:49 AM, " Teague" <medstudent2be (AT) highstream (DOT) net> wrote:
Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement, — I love Yoga, and I do very low impact poses, l ots of gentle stretching and it’s SO relaxing I can actually feel the stress drain out of me! Deep breathing is another thing — I am a light breather by nature but have to remember t o do that deep-gut type breathing and that helps too. I just am looking forward to getting my right dose of Armour, if there is such a thing for me, after nearly four years of synthetics with the levo and cytomel. My cholesterol shot up almost 50 points after I camed down with Hypo and that sux since I eat NO fatty foods, nada — and I know it’s heriditary but I think mine is also hypo-related since both came about at the same time, along with the weight gain. There’s something called metabolic dysfunction and I think I am headed there it’s just sad sometimes cuz I really do try so very hard... Sue ooooh yoga is sooo good for people that have thyroid problems!! We have problems (as you know) with tight tendons, muscles, etc. and yoga is very low impact (when taught correctly) and it really tones and stretches out muscles you didn't know you had LOL. You WILL become healthy again Sue. You are on the right track and are almost there. The Armour tweaking can take a long time and after about 3 months or so of being on Armour, you'll probably have a 'spike' of lethargy and what not. Taking Armour will play with your adrenals... they kind of jumpstart a dying battery. The adrenals get a temporary charge until they crap out again. If you stay on Armour (or other thyroid meds that are good for you) you'll have less 'spikes' over time, although it will take a while to get fixed. Your body will be healing from not having enough nutrients (thyroid hormone) so be sure to rest. Take your body one day at a time and YOU WILL be okay. ..
