Guest guest
Tamara - I bought the book a couple of days ago, and just started the first chapter last night. I (unlike you) am a v e r y s l o w r e a d e r ... so it will take me forever to get through it. Oh well. I plan on taping the show tonight, I'll be busy at our local Twin's Club Yard Sale, so I can either watch it this weekend, or I'll watch it next Monday when the boys are napping. I usually like the way Dr. Phil treats things, so I think this is going to be good. Sherlyn http://community.webshots.com/user/spudberry Dr. Phil Don't forget Dr. Phil is on tonight on NBC with Couric for a 2hr special at 8pm eastern or 7pm central! I bought his book this week and he definately has the answers. It is a difficult book to get through because he makes you face what he calls " your personal truth " and dissect it....not an easy thing to do. I usually go through books like this in a day....I'm not even half way through this book 3 days later lol. There's ALOT of homework! Honestly, I think he is a force to reckon with and I do reccommend his book to anyone who has been battling their weight....even if I'm not finished it yet lol. Guest guest
I started last week as soon as I got the book...I'm not sure if the challenge had anything to do with it but I weighed in yesterday and had lost 3lbs.....I weigh every two weeks so anything could have contributed. I'm definately following along with the show and keeping up with the exercises in the book. I am excited yet apprehensive at the same time lol. I don't like what's ahead in the way of work but, as Dr. Phil mentioned on the show, the pain is no better hiding behind the wall. I can't wait for todays show! Guest guest
Tina, If you don't mind me asking........what is the " Surrendered Wife " thing? Just curious? Guest guest
It's so hard to find out what's behind those emotions and I empathize with you greatly! We carry alot of baggage that we don't realize and it tends to surface when we least want it to. Too often, we are told what we need to do but not how to do it. It can become frustrating! Dr. Phil certainly addresses this quite a bit in the new book but another good book of his would be Self Matters. It's a tough book to get through and there's alot of work but it's so worth the money. I've seen it discounted at book stores and online and I'm sure it's alot easier to find right now. I think the notes are great and I hope you keep it up. It's better to get those emotions out, even on paper and look at them later when you are ready. We all have to remember that we have to heal from the inside before we can begin work on the outside. Keep pluggin along....you'll get there as long as you don't stop what you are doing :-) Tamara > I don't have the book but am considering getting it. Guest guest
Well I decided to try our KMart since I needed a few things anyway and sure enough, they had several copies there for $19.50. I so rarely buy books, esp. hardcover (you know...can wait for the trade paperback or library) but felt so strongly about it, I got it. I also picked up a notebook in a lovely pink to use to write on. I've done a bit of Self-Matters and I found myself kind of lost in what to answer on much of it. I sometimes think I've been in a fog for so long I can't see what is in front of me. But it is coming...I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. I've been waiting for this devine intervention or great revolation or SOMETHING and once in awhile something comes up...and I think about it...then it comes up again until FINALLY I actually LISTEN to it and realize that is it! I need to go back to SM because I bet I can answer some of them now. Tina

Guest guest
Hey all - good morning! So how many of us here are watching & trying to follow Dr. Phil's Weight Loss Challenge? I watched the show yesterday & am planning on watching it today too. I'm still S L O W L Y reading the book. I'm on the Key that is trying to talk me into forgiving people - hmmmm....... I am REALLY going to TRY REALLY hard to work on this one. I have several things that I am still holding grudges on, and I know that I would be MUCH happier if I'd just let loose of them. But it is really hard to let go of things when you feel people have done you wrong. I just have to keep telling myself that I'm only hurting myself by holding on to the anger. A couple of the things I'm holding on to are directed at my husband, and I know that our over all relationship would be SO MUCH better if I'd just let go of them, but apparently I need to grow up some more before I can do that. I just can't let it go. But I'm going to really struggle with it this week, and see if I can make some progress. The others, are some baggage from my past - they too need to be dealt with and let go forever, and I think they will be easier to deal with. Both of them are things that just make me sad, not necessarily mad So I'll hopefully be able to let them go easier than the arguments with my hubby. I honestly don't think any of the above issues have much to do with my weight. But I do believe that I'll be a happier person without hanging on to it, so who knows, maybe cleaning out my mental closets really will help with the weight project too - can't hurt can it? Are any of the rest of you working on this section of the book? And if so - how are you doing with it? I have mixed feelings about Dr. Phil kicking 5 of the 13 people off his show. I'm still hoping that in the end he won't really kick them off. But on the other hand, he might be trying to prove the point that there isn't any need to struggle with this until you get your head screwed on straight. But the skeptical side of me thinks that taking the best 8 out of 13 sure ups his odds for maintaining his success rates. We'll see how today's show goes. I was hoping to " relate " to the stay at home mom, since that is what I am - too bad she's such a whiner We'll see - if she remains on the show, maybe she'll settle down & I can relate to her, but so far she drives me crazy. Guest guest
Hi Sherlyn, I have not gotten to that section of the book yet. My main area of work is going to not regain the weight because of covering myself up. After listening to the Challengers today, it almost sounds hollow and empty to have thoughts that I act on to keep myself fat. So unnecessary. I kind of hate to see some of the challengers be cut, but some of them are just downright crazy. I am so thankful that I had not gotten in touch with the lady from Arlington, as I live not too far from her. She was the one that was in the previews for next Mnday's show, screaming in the confessional. I liked that Jim the DJ told Donnie who was relaxing and playing guitars asked., " Is she screaming over the dinner? " Yes, the salt lady was her. I have decided to just follow this thing through and use it as a good reference and give most of it a try in spite of it all. Talk with you later, nananyse > Hey all - good morning! > > So how many of us here are watching & trying to follow Dr. Phil's Weight > Loss Challenge?
