Just pack your vehicle full of food and supplies and c'mon over... We'll pool our resources and come out just fine... Oh.. .if you have a dehydrator, bring it along.. We'll need it to make our desiccated thyroid... I have three of them here.. but the more the merrier! hehehehehe

There was alot of people that moved out here before Y2K, and buying up visqueen like crazy. I helped a couple when I was working at a feed store, they wanted a bunch. They looked at me like I was out of my mind that I wasn't wrapping up my house like they were. A few weeks later, I heard of some people that died doing that because the furnace started putting out carbon minoxide, there was no more oxygen in the house. I think they died in their sleep. I hope it wasn't those guys I helped. I admit that there's quite a bit I have to learn about roughing it to a certain extent. But I'm sure that hunger would sharpen those resources!LOL Topper, do you have enough butterfly bandages to cover up all those "ectomies"? Can't you just picture it!! Did they think that the visqueen was going to protect them from Y2K or is that just a timeline?

From what they said, the visqueen would help keep out the radiation that was gonna be running rampant. I helped them about a week before Christmas and found out about some people dying shortly after new years, day or so. Unless you coat your house in lead I don't think you have a snowballs' chance of keeping out radiation. These guys were paranoid. I felt bad for them. Wow, that is some story. I thought it was bad in Georgia when everyone would clear the shelves of milk, bread, water and portable fireplaces before a 'snow' storm. I never even heard of the radiation scare with Y2K. I was one who didn't believe for a second that there would be any major problems. That is really very sad... Judy

Ya we heard quite a bit of it up here. People were buying little places out in the woods with no amenities or just homes out here ( like that would make a difference, we've got electric now too! sorry, being a smart @** ) and I guess, from what several people I know read in the papers, these people who bought homes out here got pissed because they actually HAD to pay for them now since nothing happened when the new year came. People were trying to back out of the deals they made to get new houses. The only run on stuff up here was for the water. I think those were probly out of staters. Nobody I knew that was actually from here was very worried. I stocked up a little on a few things, rice, flour, sugar and some canned goods because I was worried that all the people freaking out about stuff would snag things in ungodly quantities. Not to dis people from "back east" ( anything east of North Dakota usually applies as back east ), but a lot of people from back there, come

out here, and started snapping stuff up like it was free beer. Kinda made the rest of us a little testy. They were looking at us like we were inbreds because we weren't worried about stuff. Then they got pissed when they were still alive on Jan 1st and saying that they shouldn't have been held to everything they bought because Y2K was sposed to wreck havoc. DUH? It was all rather mean if you ask me. Seriously, who could honestly believe that you wouldnt' be held to task? Cripes, I WATCHED my computer switch over! Also watched the fireworks the neighbors bought and made myself some popcorn with the available electricity and took a pop out of the fridge that was still working.SpiffJudy P wrote: Wow, that is some story.
