Guest guest
Yes, there is a certain amount of " teaching " them to sleep at night. Easier said than done! s. Re: Sleeping with the cast Your son has the same birthday as my daughter. I can't believe how fast she is growing. Anyway.are you putting a blanket or rolled towel under his knees? Sometimes that helps. I would let him cry for 5 minutes then go in and console him. The next time he gets up let him cry for 7 minutes ect. How many times a night is he waking up? DD has never been a great sleeper and sleeps from 9-6 but gets up a couple of times in between. When she gets up before 6 I let her cry a few minutes then get up and giver her a pacifier. Does he take a pacifier? You could also try to just give water in the bottle so you don't start any bad habits of needing the formula in the night for when the cast come back off. HTH. Guest guest
ee, Did any of the docs mention colic? My neighbors' 2 children had bad colic, the first one much worse than the second. It sounds absolutely hellish. I cannot begin to imagine! For the second child, my neighbor discovered this awesome book which helped out IMMENSELY. She is certain his colic was much improved and shorter in duration because of the strategies she used from the book. The title is escaping me but as soon as I hit send I'll remember... All day. Every day. No matter what. There was a 2 week stretch where I never saw my own bed, no lie. I'd be up on the sofa with him all night, walking the floors, whatever, night after bloody night after bloody night my God it was the worst time of my life and my dh would find me asleep in some of the weirdest positions where I crashed holding on to the baby and there he'd be, still crying and me asleep holding him for a moment. Sometimes if I turned on my breast pump the gentle sound of it's motor would lull him to sleep a while, other times the swing worked, but mostly he didn't sleep, he screamed until we all cried with him. We went to doctors for him, " what is wrong? " and they'd tell us, " he's a baby " ......... He turns a year old in a few days, and it seems like he cannot be a year old. Basically we lost those first 4 months, we didn't get a baby until he was 4 months old if that makes sense. He still wakes up a lot at night, but it's nothing like it used to be. s. _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/

Guest guest
The Happiest Baby On The Block? or some book like that? Some doc's said it was colic; some said his feet; some thought we were over-reacting. Oh, one thought it was acid reflux and the baby was put on various medications; some even made the matter worse! Then he got thrush three times during all this.... Part of it he was tongue-tied and we couldnt' find a doctor who would fix that until he was 4 months old - we believe it affected his ability to eat to fullness. A few doctors even agreed with us, but refused to clip it for him. The change came when we found a doctor who would clip it, but it took another couple months I swear for us all to learn how to live again. He was spoiled to eating every 15 to 20 minutes round the clock (no joke!) and it took a while to break that habit once he could eat to fullness. Really the worst of all that was how miserable he was. You could see he WANTED to be happy, but for whatever reason, he could not feel good. It broke our hearts. And it was so hard on our other son, trying to explain the baby couldn't help it and we were trying to fix it but couldn't as life crumbled. Everett is a really funny happy baby now days, club feet and all. s. Guest guest
Wow! Now I remember you mentioned the tongue tied issue... Didn't realize how traumatic it was for your family! It seems like some issues get a lot of attention, but not others. I guess health care workers don't want to worry us about the things that could go wrong, but some of these issues, while not a big deal, can cause lots of problems if the parent isn't aware of what to look for... > The Happiest Baby On The Block? or some book like that?
