Guest guest
I think it does, but yes, it is definitly pricy. I took 5000 mg/day for awile and did great, the weight fell off and I could barely force myself to eat. Then I ran out and started eating bad stuff again. So I sucked it up and bought a bunch of it on sale, and have been taking 4000 mg/day. I tried lower doses, but seemed to get benefits at that level. And I did really great for awhile. But now the last week or so, I can't get off the sweets. There is something in my face daily and I just eat it. So, yes, the carnitine definitly gives me energy, but I can't say it is keeping me off the sweets anymore. Today I've just really gone crazy, the worst yet. I will be so miserable tonight, I already know this is coming and am dreading it like crazy. Actually, this little binge has coincided w/ running out of another supplement that I started taking after reading " The Swartzbien Principle " , 5-HTP. That is also pricey, but it is for depression and I seem to be eating because I can't work it up to care about eating better. I have some 5-HTP on order, and am hoping it will GET HERE SOON before I go completely nuts. Now, was that way more than you wanted to know? Beth in TX Kristn wrote: <<I just went to buy carnitine. Guest guest
Did you take on empty stomach? I have some, and I keep forgetting to take it, as I recall it says to not take with food. Guest guest
It is expensive here too. I have been taking 1 tab per day @ 500 mg. This morning I took 4 = 2000gm. I'll see how I feel with this dosage. Anymore than that 7 I really won't be able to afford it. Something else will have to give. Guest guest
Did the 500 mg tab do anything for you? I'm just wondering if I should return the bottle because I can't really afford this stuff anyway and if I have to take 4-10 tablets a day then I might as well forget it. Guest guest
Any hfs will have it, but you may find it cheaper to buy on-line. www.puritanspride.com Beth in TX Candace wrote: <<Where can you buy the Carnitine? Guest guest
Yes, but I thought it was an amino acid, and those should be taken on an empty stomach. The label actually says to take w/ a meal. It doesn't make me feel sick or anything like some vitamins do on an empty stomach, but I think I'll try taking w/ meals and see how that goes. Anybody else know? On another topic (actually my cookie binge yesterday), I took a bunch of Biochem Carb Phaser 1000's w/ several of the cookies, and I must say, I don't feel nearly as rotten today as I expected. Anything w/ flour & sugar in the same product usually makes me feel like dogmeat the next day. I also have been taking these gymnema sylvestre tablets off & on, took them yesterday, maybe that helped. I've decided that if I can ignore the cookies (which are still at the end of the hall), I can have anything else on plan I want until they are gone. And I'll stop by the candy shop at lunch and spluge on some sf chocolates. Anything to stop the bleeding at this point. Beth in TX HJ wrote: Did you take on empty stomach? Guest guest
Not for me, can't say for anyone else. I've also been taking chromium to reduce appetite, that is much cheaper. I'd actually like to go off the carnitine due to the cost, but I'm sure anything else works as good for me. When I run out, I'll probably go off for awhile and see how I do - although I bought a bunch when puritanspride was having the buy 1, get 2 free sale. That is the only way this stuff is even close to affordable. Beth in TX Kristn wrote: <<Did the 500 mg tab do anything for you? Guest guest
I've taken the L-Carnitine before and my experience was that 2, 500mg capsules absolutely wiped out my appetite. I didn't even THINK ABOUT eating and had to remind myself to graze. And energy? WHEW! Lots of it :-) Now that I think about it, I might have to buy some and start back. -Marlena 214.5/159.8/150 > > > > Did you take on empty stomach? Guest guest
> Is carnitine the same as L- carnitine? If so it is $10.79 at Walmart for > 500mg. Or it's $27.48 for 90, 500mg tablets at http://www.vitacost.com. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because they have all sorts of other Atkins products and supplements, and you can get whatever you'd like for a $4.95 flat-rate shipping charge. -- in Indy (262.5)253.5/222/<215*/150 3/26/01 * Thanksgiving mini goal

Guest guest
Yes it really was 4000 and 5000, yes it is very pricey, yes, I was losing weight and feeling very good at the highest dosage. I've been purchasing it in quantity when I find it really cheap, and I plan to try moving down to a lower dose to save $ and see if I can find a place I can live w/ and still feel good. Having said all that, weight loss is not my primary reason for staying w/ this WOE. I have health problems that cause fatigue, and mild depression and anxiety, so my needs probably do not mirror those of the general popultion. My highest weight (except when preggers) was 132, now I'm at 127. I'd love to weigh 120 or even 115, but want to feel good (or at least " good for me " ) more.
