He wants me to be his " personal assistant, " with no other responsibilities

to the law office (i.e. phones, secretarial). It will only entail his

personal things, like travel, entertainment, his " wedding " planning (next

June), his

kids tuition packages, and any business ventures. He has tailored the job

to be Monday thru Thursday, with Fridays to have " my " time at home, at the

same salary I was getting for 5 days.

He said he really needs me, and would really like me to stay. He's moving

my desk to sit outside his office, hiring a legal secy, receptionist and

office manager (I TOLD you I did a lot!)My husband called from San Francisco and

said, " honey, it isn't every day that someone spends the whole weekend

reformatting their office. "

Opinions, please???????

XOXO

Sounds like a great job! Do you feel up to doing it? If you

don't - I could relocate............ :) Good Luck!

wow, . He's not making your decision easy for you.

It must be very flattering to know he >really< wants you to stay.

Now you have to figure out if this new job is going to have the sane

schedule you need, or is it going to turn into your old job. I mean,

planning a wedding is a full-time job in itself!

As I mentioned, my sister went through something similar with her old

boss, where he kept promising to make the hours saner for her, but then

they (and she claims some responsibility) slipped back into the old routine.

I think you have to trust your instincts about your boss and figure out

if this new job is going to be what you want.

take care, and let us know!

If you feel you can handle it and its what YOU want to do then go for it. I

would not let him start pushing the extra work back on you.

fwiw, it sounds to me like he really respects your

work and values you as an employee - he didn't have to

rearrange things just to keep you, after all...and I'm

not saying take the newly configured job just because

he set it up for you...but it does give me pause, and

makes me think that he's doing a lot not to loose you

as an emplyee; and that even if you might not feel it,

he probably does respect you and your work and your

work ethic

Dang, that's impressive, you must be amazing. Here's a thought: you could

certainly try it. You can always quit later.

Best wishes on this decision.

I think I am wondering the same thing Rhonda was....can you

not do this on a " trial " basis? Give him a month (if he REALLY

does want to keep you, he'll likely agree) and if you are in over

your head, feel overwrought (or are overwhelmed with the urge

to strangle the man) then I'd pack it in prior to the voluntary

manslaughter charges : )

I still think you should pick up and gooooo, out of this toxic

workplace because of your past experiences there. And I wouldn't

want to be working just for one person.........too much depending on

his good humor. Just my humble opinion, for what it's worth.

Marisa,

I think that's great, but it's an " inside " joke w/Lu - she was born in Italy

and we always kid each other as we are both italians. I knew Lu would get a

" kick " out of it.

Well, off to get ready for NYC and Martha Show. I'm SO excited!
