Janet, different docs will require different things. I came home from the

hospital on the traditional " liquids " - which included SF jello, broth (I prefer

the Boston Market broths rather than the Swansons - they taste richer), water,

but he also included blended soups and cottage cheese and yoghurt in my

" liquids " - of course I had to chew them until they *were* liquid.

1st Month Liquids?

I'm sure many of you have heard these questions over and over, but

I'm asking again anyway...what all liquids can I have the first month

(besides protein drinks and water, of course)? When can you have

broths? Soups? What kinds?

I'm trying to be ready for after surgery on 3/13 (16 days and

counting down).

By the way, thanks to everyone for all the great information and

advise you provide.

Janet - There are 4 phases of eating - clear liquids, full liquids, pureed

foods, and soft foods. Broth and most things you can see through are considered

clear liquids. Some docs have you at this stage for a week or two. My surgeon

has us on that stage for 1 day in the hospital. Full liquids are things like

cream soups, pudding, yogurt plus all the previous clear liquids. Pureed is

like baby food consistency. I ate a lot of refried beans and cottage cheese at

this stage. You'll have to ask your doc how long you will be at each stage.

They are all different. Hope this helps.

Take care.

Dear Janet,

I had everything -- jello, broth (the best) of every kind, juice (if you're

not diabetic) and if you are in a warm climate, even consume put in the

refrigerator turns out like broth jello.... Lotsa' water, decaf tea, green

tea, flavored tea.

Good luck. You won't be as hungry as you think especially if you have a lot

of jello.

Just a little piece of advice from the newbie. I think the one think I

bought at my manic wal-mart trip the night before my surgery was a baby

spoon. OH MY. You just don't know. You will be put on SF Jell-O-o (buy that

btw), and if you think its easy to eat and ounce of that in 30 min you just

just wait. I tried and tried and tried.... I finally got it to about 6

minutes. Got home to my trusty baby spoon, gurlfriend it takes me over 30

min now. *nods lots* And take tampons!!!! I know you will think that is

crazy, cause I did.... but from experience you do not want to be calling the

nurse to tell her your cathedra is leaking only to be going " OH " when she

comes in. *sage nod* I am just over a week post op .... *leans close to

whisper... " 19 lbs lighter btw.... not that I have been near a scale or

anything " ...* and I am eating Jell-O, chicken broth, popsicles and drinking

water and crystal light..I cant eat beef broth...it just doesn't work... its

too salty.. but that is me.. however... oh honey... i had some egg drop soup

last night..... and ooohhh *eyes rolling back in her head... toes curling...

whimpers...* words cant even describe...
