Guest guest
Hello, , and welcome! Regarding your insurance, you must talk to MaineCare Insurance, either call their customer service yourself or, if you have the insurance from either your employer or your husband's employer, maybe the employer has an insurance administrator who can call for you. You must find out from MaineCare what they will " allow " (what they will pay for) for the specialized medical care the baby will need. Unfortunately, the situation is usually that the insurance will not pay for you to go to a doctor that is not on the insurance company's list of approved doctors. But maybe the insurance will pay for the doctor in Boston if your doctor (your baby's doctor) in Maine tells the insurance company that the baby must see this doctor in Boston because there is no doctor in Maine who can do the Ponseti Method. Besides asking if they will pay for the Boston doctor, you also must ask if they will pay for other things you may need, like the casting and the special braces and/or shoes. Be especially careful to ask if they will pay for the braces and shoes. Usually these are called " durable medical equipment " and some insurance companies will pay for it and some will not. I suggest you start talking with the insurance company right now about this so that you will have time to find out what is possible, so that you can make your plan before the baby is born. My son, born with bilateral clubfeet (both feet) was treated with the Ponseti Method and the first casts were put on him when he was only three days old. Good luck!
