Guest guest
I have eaten FF pringles and WOW chips for 2-3 years now with no apparent ill effects. There are conflicting reports on Olean and Olestra One thing about the Internet is you can find something to back almost any position. Guest guest
I agree with you, Charlie. I think if they are going to bother you, you will know from the very first consumption. lol I used to love the Pringles Sour Cream and Onion, but I've switched back to Baked Lays for now. It's really funny, but before WW, I never ate potato chips. Now I eat Baked Lays every day. I'm thinking that might not be a good thing. lol Listmom Lyn RE: FF Pringles I have eaten FF pringles and WOW chips for 2-3 years now with no apparent ill
Guest guest
I hadn't heard of the anti-oxidants issue (I'm wondering if there are any other factors involved), but, fortunately, a lot of people don't have a problem eating it. I've never had any of the " side effects " , so I guess it's just like any food. Some people react badly, while other people don't have any reactions at all. Guest guest
Exactly! They're still around after 3 years, so enough people must be doing fine, otherwise they would have pulled them off the market. =) I love them (especially the WOW Doritos. YUMMMM!) 166/152.6/130 (ATH- 175) RE: FF Pringles > > > Wow, I just checked their site and they do have Olestra in them. > You just > can't win huh! Guest guest
Baked Lays are great for you! They're just baked potatoes w/ some other stuff thrown in there to make them yummy. =) I really like them too, so I fully support the daily consumption of Baked Lays! =) RE: FF Pringles > > > I have eaten FF pringles and WOW chips for 2-3 years now with no > apparent ill > >
Guest guest
Thanks Charlie. Guest guest
The depletion of the Fat soluble vitamins could be something one would not discover for years, however. Likewise the depletion of certain anti oxidents in the blood which are known to fight cancer. Guest guest
We might as well stop this now. This is going to go the same way as the aspartame thread. Guest guest
As Charlie pointed out earlier, you can find anything to back your position on the internet: " At the levels of consumption that people are eating olestra, there is not evidence that it has an effect on [levels of carotenoids in the blood], " http://my.webmd.com/content/article/26/1728_59666.htm?lastselectedguid={5FE84E90\ -BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348} And: " I do not think that foods consumed in moderation will have a negative effect on your health. " http://my.webmd.com/content/article/42/1671_53206.htm?lastselectedguid={5FE84E90\ -BC77-4056-A91C-9531713CA348} 166/152.6/130 (ATH- 175) RE: FF Pringles > > > > > > > > > Wow, I just checked their site and they do have Olestra in them. > > > You just > > > can't win huh! Guest guest
I'm happy to have all of the info though to make informed choices- for me and my family I'd rather not take the chance. Can't go wrong with whole foods that haven't been processed to death. Guest guest
This is a general message, not necessarily about any particular product. The phrase " there is no evidence " in medicine is a catch phrase which doesn't mean that something is safe. It merely means that either something has not been studied enough to prove a more than a slight relationship between a deleterious side effect and the product or that the existent studies have not been accepted by the writer/researcher for some reason or other, one of which reasons may be that the writer has an affiliation with those selling the product. For example for many years after it came out in Scientific American that smoking caused long term deleterious side effects, many medical authorities were saying " there is no evidence that smoking causes ... such and such " There are still people who say this about smoking by the way. The writer of THE MAKER'S DIET (a popular new diet plan) stated that since some primitive society was healthy and smoked daily, that must show that smoking isn't dangerous for everyone. A close family member who apparently 'got away' with smoking for years and used it to keep slim has just discovered that her cholesterol is over 300 and she has the beginnings of emphysema.
