Guest guest
Hi All! Just returned from an AMAZING day at the clubfoot symposium in Baltimore. What an incredible pleasure it was to meet and Allyson Egbert and Dr. Pirani and many other parents and doctors. I'm bad with names, so I don't want to leave anyone out! It was quite a mindexpanding day! 's presentation about the parents' perspective was very well done. I just want to reassure those parents in attendance that the videotape of the patients was solely for in-house teaching purposes for Dr. Herzenberg's use. Actually, I had to run out and get more tapes, so I did not even get to tape all of the cases since my tape ran out... I will be giving Dr. Herzenberg all of the videos once I transfer the footage to VHS and DVD. The children and parents were phenomenal! It looked pretty stressful. I hope everyone's doing okay. There was a lot of discussion amongst the doctors about parents' compliance with bracing and how to help parents comply, but the big controversy was whether or not to use anesthesia for the tenotomy. The doctors who presented their success stories using the method were very excited. It was so powerful to see case after case of clubfoot with a positive outcome. Pictures do speak volumes. I hope I get to go next year as well! Best, Joanne

Guest guest
Yesterday was very enlightening! It was great to meet all of you who attended. When Christian was on stage Dr. Herzenberg handed me the microphone to explain his prior treatment. It was completely unexpected and I was already a little nervous...but it was ok. Did anyone else do that too? Guest guest
It was an amazing day! It was awesome to have Dr. Pirani do the Pirani score on Tommy! I was lucky enough to be able to stay to see everyone's story and hear speak. I became so emotional when I saw older kids like Collin up there running around. I am such a cry baby. I am so hopeful that will be Tommy someday. I am so inspired to do something to make a difference. I am starting by posting a letter on the maternity ward at the hospital I work at that lets the nurses know that if any babies are born with clubfoot that the parents are encouraged to contact me to get some information. I plan on doing the same at my pediatricians office. It may not be much but it is a start. It was great to meet everyone. Guest guest
Joanne, It was nice for Allyson and I to meet you yesterday at the symposium. It was fun to meet with other parents and their children as well. Many who came were from our groups, but there were a few who were not on the internet. I will try to put together some information on each presentation in the next few days. and Allyson > Hi All! > > Just returned from an AMAZING day at the clubfoot symposium in > Baltimore. Guest guest
I must agree at what an awesome day it was yesterday! It was so nice to meet all of you who were there and especially nice to meet (if it weren't for you we would never have switched care to Dr. H). Talk to you soon! Guest guest
Hello, We just returned from the shore, we went after we got home from the synopsim (a lot of driving in one day)! It was so great to meet all of you. I was out in the hall most of the day trying to keep Collin busy but it was still great. Next year I hope to stay for the actual event and listen in. All of your children are great, everyone was so cute!!!! Collin went on amusement rides for the first time yesterday then again today, he loves them. The whole way home he cried he wanted to go on the " toaster coaster " one more time. I'm glad everyone had an enjoyable and enlightening experience at the synopsim it is so cool to put names with faces and learn about everyone's different experiences and just to see others who are older and doing great, We met a few kids a bit older then Collin and it was refreshing to see how well they are doing like Dylan, etc. It's hard I remember more faces now then names!!!! And the little ones Christian, Sara, Tommy, & were so adorable (I hope I have the names right so many new people in one day) I was impressed by the shoes, they look more comfortable to me as a Parent...I may check into them since as Collin gets older he just puts up such a fight putting his DBB/FAB on. I deffianlty hope I make this a yearly event to listen in on, even when Collin is not a case example. Guest guest
You were really put on the spot , huh? I didn't have to do that, but it sounds like you did a fine job! It was very hectic when was up there b/c Tommy Lee was up there at the same time and they were both being casted at the same time. It was crazy! And it also proves that babies DO talk to one another, b/c while Tommy Lee was so sweet and quiet, is WAILING (as usual) and then Tommy Lee joined in. Sorry ! Tommy probably would have remained cool if didn't instigate. The funniest part (not really funny) was when the doctors were trying to explain what they were doing over the loud cries. You couldn't hear anything!! Gotta love those baby lungs! It was wonderful meeting everyone and their beautiful children. I hope to run into yous again at Dr. H's office. P.S. will probably need another tenotomy on the right foot only, but Dr. H wants to do 2 more weeks of casts first to see if anything changes. We'll see. At the bare minimum 2 weeks of casts; maximum 5 weeks. I'm so ready for casts to be done with! I havn't played with her little (stinky) feet in so long. I miss them. Guest guest
I have to make an appointment for this coming Friday the 10th. I will call as soon as they are open this morning. I think at 9:00AM? How about you? P.S. I have to be honest and say I was not a big fan of Dr. Pirani (sp?). He was way too aggressive for me. I am sure he has all the credentials in the world and developed that point chart (which I don't know anything about), but he was in my face about any opinion I made. He is the one who casted and he kept telling me how to handle her. Excuse me, but I know my child more than anyone else and I know what does and doesn't work. He kept trying to force me to give her a bottle during the casting and I told him she won't eat it, trust me. But he kept insisting so I said okay (also b/c I didn't want to make a huge deal in front of all these people). Anyway, she didn't want it, and he still didn't let it go! He took the bottle from me and tried to give it to her himself as if he had some special touch that her own mother wouldn't have!? Thank god the camera wasn't on my face at that point b/c it was ugly. I also told him that you give her any food that she will throw up on you. I think he thought I was kidding. gets so worked up during castings that she usually throws up. Anyway, I don't do well with aggressive personalities. To me that is a sign of ego and empowerment. I don't like that, I don't care how good you are. Also Joanne mentioned earlier about how some doctors don't like internet parents b/c they interfere with treatment? Are you kidding me? I bet you Dr. Pirani was one of them. I'm sorry if I am on my own on this one but that is how I feel. Guest guest
The symposium was very informative. It was a pleasure meeting all of you who attended. It was especially nice meeting and Allyson. , as I told you on Saturday, you informed us of Dr. Herzenberg and the doctor at 's Hopkins(thanks, again). Dr. Herzenberg was able to correct my daughter's foot at 16 months with additional casting. By the way, I was able to stay and listen to Dr. Pirani's lecture on how the Ponseti Method in developing countries like Uganda is being used. It was very enlightening. Guest guest
I don't know Dr. Pirani. I can remember Dr. Lamm and Dr. Standard but that's it. I can tell you that if someone was doing that to my kid it would really make me angry also. There is just no comforting them at that point. You think they would know that by now! Anyway, we will be there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Sheila is going to call me back and let me know what doctor we will be seeing because Friday is the last day of the workshop. Also, next week they won't be in!!! Did you know that? I don't know who will be changing Christian's cast..somebody has to. will need it changed again next week also.correct? Guest guest
We are going to see Dr. Lamm (sp?). Is that who you will be seeing? I think you can go 3 extra days with the cast on..they where some for 3 weeks at a time. I kind of like going on Fridays rather than any other day but I am assuming this will change now that they won't be there. I will have to go on the Monday after. When will you know if needs the tenotomy for sure? Friday? Mommy to 12/17/98 and Christian 1/30/04 _____ From: susan.shook@... I too don't know which doctor will do the cast. Sheila will be calling me back also. And the following week, we may shoot for the following Monday (week after) b/c will be having her tenotomy done (if needed). I definately want Dr. H. doing that! Guest guest
I will be seeing Dr. Lamm too. I like him, so it is okay with me. I was hoping to find out for sure about the tenotomy this Friday, but Dr. H needs to make that decision and he won't be there. So I guess we will know the following visit.
