I had LAP-RNY on Jan 21st, the day after you. How are you doing so far?

Sounds like you are doing pretty good.

I am scared to eat. How about you? I am supposed to move to soft food this

week, but I never thought it would be this scary. Gee, will something get

stuck? Will I throw up? It's silly, isn't it? From the woman who used to

swallow 12 pills @ once, eat a cheeseburger in 2 minutes flat. Who would

have thought. Did they do a labotomy (sp) at the same time> I think they

took part of my brain cuz I never ever am hungry. I never even think of

food any more. I am only three weeks out. Doing pretty good.

I still have a wick incision that does NOT want to close. The surgeon is

seeing me once a week till it does. He said I am a slow healer, and it will

get there.

Hope you are doing well.

The ONE shake that agrees with me is Atkins. I tried all the flavors. Now,

i was a chocoholic, and the one that tastes the best is the vanilla. I

think it has 23 g of protein, 0 or 1 gram of sugar and 1 g of carbs.

My nutritionist told me to drink Boost Plus or Ensure with Protein. MADE ME

BARF! Can you say like 15 g of sugar?!?!? Duh./ I tried some samples from

Vitalady which were also great and inexpensive. the only and only reason I

am doing Atkins now instead of Vitalady (which I do have on the weekends) is

portabililty and convenience @ work. I just put in in the fridge, open and

drink. So, easy. I have like 2-3 a day for now.

I haven't really eaten anything solid yet. I'm scared and my surgeon

(although I know I prob could by now) has patients on a liquid diet for 3

weeks, then puree, then soft, then........ the dreaded solids. ha ha

Pain...... well, I have pain on my upper left side cuz I have that darn wick

thing that is being stubborn and doesn't want to close. PLUS the tape

and/or 4x4 bandaids I have to use is irritating the heck out of my skin.

So, it kinda hurts still. Other than that........ my lower belly REALLY is

still sore and bruised (kind of lumpy) from those lovenox shots. OUCH.

That kinda is sore/tender still.

Plus, I don't know about you, but I am really itchy all the time on my

tummy. Healing, I am sure. Plus I'm on liquid antibiotics (bleh) for the

wick still being open-- to fight off possible infection. Itch itch itch..

The people @ work think I have fleas.

Hope you are doing well! Please keep in touch. My email is

Hi, ...

I'm one month out as of today. I've done very well on my liquid diet, and my

soft foods as well, chewing like crazy. I was delighted with the potato, and

the egg, and even vegetables, but meat? I'm not so comfortable there.

However, I had sushi yesterday, eating only the fish, and that was good. But

last night I had tuna salad, and it was so delicious on the piece of pitta

bread (toasted well) that I thought I was in heaven so I went for the 1/4

artichoke and that became just too much food, and I was miserable. I wanted

to vomit, but wasn't able, however, my husband brought me some hot tea, and

that helped me really burp, and all was well.... but I'll never do that

again.

Hope you do well.... Naomi

Hi!

First off, so sorry you're feeling crummy! I had my 230mci RAI on

October 28th (almost 9 months ago)- and unfortunately I didn't start

feeling better until about the 6th month after the treatment. I went

to the endo today, and we are just now, FINALLY, at the right

Synthroid dose. I had never imagined it would take so long. All I can

say is hang in there, it will get better...... sleep when you have

to, cry when you have to, talk with your friends, and visit this

board. We can all support each other.

Good Luck, and I hope you're on top of the world again soon!

Hi Donna,

My husband and I have been on the atkins for two and a half weeks.

We both lost 5 lbs. initially, but it's slowed considerably since.

I've lost a total of 8 pounds as has my husband. I've been really

good, haven't gone off it once and I've been exercising 6 out of 7

days a week for 40 to 50 minutes a day. Hubby hasn't exercised at

all, except household chores. He confessed to me just yesterday

that he had had a donut at work last week. BAD BOY!! LOL!! I've

barely lost 1 pound since Wednesday which is very disappointing. I

really don't know how much longer we will be on it, but I haven't

had as much trouble staying on it as I have other eating programs.

I do seem to have more energy, but I miss some goodies even in

moderation. Anyway, good luck and I'll be interested in how you do.

,

You rock. I'm new to this board; first joined WW in June 2003 and lost 27 lbs.

by January. I had never been on a diet before. The first time I went to the

grocery store after starting on plan, I literally cried. I envisioned never

again being able to eat the things I loved . . . premium ice cream, cheesecake,

Fruity Pebbles (hello, I'm Betsy and I'm a cerealholic). The first two weeks

were the absolute hardest. Little by little for me, it got easier . . . you can

do it!

I fell off the wagon this spring and gained about eight lbs. back. Now I'm back

on again (day 2) with a short-term goal to lose 10 lbs. before I leave for a

cruise to Cozumel in August. Wish me luck!

Janet,

I am so sorry that your Granddaughter would even think that let alone say it to you like she did. I have the most problem with my youngest, she just doesn't like hearing about. In fact I was talking to her on the phone last night, when my pain was way up and I must of made a noise because she said don't make that noise it's annoying, I told her I am sorry and made some excuse to get off the phone, I think it will be best if I don't talk to her much until she can learn to be a support not an hindrance. I don't know what to do in your situation, which parent of hers is yours, if it is the mother I would have a conference with her and get some of those brochures the NINDS sends out for free, I had a consultation with this neurologist before I knew what I had. So I called him to set up an appointment after I was diagnosed I was told rather rudely that they didn't believe in this disease, I thought that was only in Oregon that stilled believed that. It just amazes me how Doctors can pick and choose whether or not they are going to believe in a disease.

I think that Barbara has a great suggestion. Hey if you can't vent here then where can you vent. Even the people in your family that support you can't really know what you are going through. But we sure can.

take care,

Lin

It may have a "little" to do with family and friends opinions I have been hearing this week! Just when I think I can handle this higher pain level, they have to go and say something stupid that sets me into a spin. My 14 yr. old granddaugther always calls me a hyprocontriac. I don't even act like I am in pain when she is here; I put on my "mask" most of the time for everyone that matters to me in my life. Babysitting when I am in pain, doing everything I can for everyone. It is hard to "act" like super nanny when I can barely walk and at times, barely able to think! Well, anyhow, today my granddaughter said something to me that I know had to come from her mother's mouth! ( sorry, that sounds bitchy, but sometimes we have to vent! lol) She said "Nanny's meds are placebos." Well, her mom works at a hospital as a surgical tech and works for a neroligist that I have been to three times over 12 years. He does not believe in RSD (hard to believe, lol) and now I know that he doesn't believe in "burning pain" and my back and neck hurting as much as it does. I asked her mom if she thought I wasn't in pain and she said " I know your foot problems are real."

-- HI ALL

Just wanted to jump in and say hi to all. I've noticed that lately alot of us have been having bad flares and higher levels of pain. I too have been having a bad week. I know the weather changing is doing havox on a lot of us. I really hate this damp cold weather! My pain level is high today. I am on Medicare and no script coverage, so I have to do without. I wait on the viciden till night so no one can call me an "addict." So, I guess I did without for no reason because they all think it is in my "head!" I want to just say to hell with trying to "act normal" and go the whole pain drug regime! Living with this pain is so hard but having love ones think you are making it up just kills me. I am so angry! All they want is for me to be super Nanny and do all that they want me to do for them! Everyone that has been talking about Dr. Swhartzman, I have some news. I called to set up an appointment with him and they said he is booked until 2006 and they took down all my info and said they will call in January to set up a 2006 apointment for me!! OMG! Can you imagine?? I have a doctor's name in NJ and was wondering if this is the one someone has been talking about that had RSD in his thumb? I live in PA, so I think I wouldn't be able to use him because of him being out of state for me. I wish I could just find a doctor that knows and treats RSD around me. Still looking. Anyone in the group know of any that are around Langhorne, Phillidelphia, PA? This heal and foot burning when I am in bed is driving me insane! I use my "placebo" (lol) lididerm patches and that helps a little. The clonizapam doesn't seem to be helping me much at all. It is suppose to help me sleep but it takes me about 2 hours to fall asleep after taking them. They use to put me right to sleep but not working lately. I will end this novel and thank you all for letting me vent! I needed it! I wish you all pain free days and God Bless. Praying for the CURE... Nannyshere aka Janet M.

Janet,

I am so sorry that you have been treated that way by your family. My daughter is 18 and has said the cruelest things to me about my meds and RSD and even my other disorders as of late. No matter how I try not to let it hurt me...it really does and it's heartbreaking. So hang in there and try not to take it to heart...I know how painful words can be and can cut you to the core of your being. I hope someday they will understand that you are really sick and not imagining it all. I hope they realize what they said has really hurt you and apologize someday for their cruel words and actions. You are very blessed to have such great in-lawas, . Mine were great also. both passed away now. 3/4 lb gain is not too bad for missing a meeting...you can get that off. Hang in there.

Hugs,

Hi all

Well I'm back on. I only missed a couple of days and had 345 e-mails! It's never a dull moment here is it?

I had a 3/4 lb. gain last night but that was after missing last weeks weigh in. It really could have been worse!

Just gonna comment on a topic that was in my e-mails. Mother-in-law___Mine has really been the best. She has always been there to help me and my husband. If it was even just with kind words-she was there. Now that my husband passed away over 5 yrs ago-- she is STILL her for me and my girls. There is really nothing she wouldn't do for me. She ususally introduces me as her 'daughter' (not in-law). Even my husbad's ex- stepmother was great! She has always been there for me. Even after her and my father-in-law got a divorce, she still stays in touch and not just by e-mails. So I guess you could say I have been blessed with 2 good Mothers-in-law. is that how you say it???

Y'all have a great week. Next week is our TOPS open house and we are having aguest speaker on Motivation. I heard she is FABULOUS! TOPS hugs, Ruth

Hi Kathy,

Really happy to hear that you are doing so well, just do as the doc

ordered and let hubbie take care of you. You will soon be up and

about doing your usual things and feeling so much more like you

would like to feel. Take care

Sounds like a bug and or a bladder infection...if you get fever, call the doctor!

Gotcha, well take care and just call your doc to see if it is “normal.” or google it... There’s so much out there on everything :)

sue

Thanks Sue. I just had outpatient surgery for kidney stones that have been causing bladder infections. That's why the discomfort and low grade fever. I'm ok fever wise unless I get up to 100.5 or higher.

But seriously, I have a lot of muscle soreness that I didn't have yesterday. I feel like they put me to sleep and then had me run a marathon. I think the only muscles that don't hurt are in my hands, feet and face. And
