Guest guest
A healing cast probably isn't a bad idea to get the sores healed up. How well do his feet flex up? Do you think he needs a tenotomy? If the shoes just won't work maybe you should look into the shoes. If you can't get in today they make a blister banaid that might work to cover the sores for the weekend. When dd got a pressure sore it really helped her. Do your shoes have the heal insert? Hang in there most of us have had this problem at one time or another. We feel your pain.

Guest guest
, I'm sorry~! How frustrating! It really sounds to me like the foot is not corrected. I know Dr. Feldman is a good Ponseti Dr. but it sounds like he miss something with your son. I would be really interested in seeing the pics, can you send them to the CFPics list? Here's what I would do if I were you... Take the damn shoes off! They will do not good if his foot is lying sideways and the heel is up AND with SORES!!! Just forget them for right now. Call the Dr. and demand further casting. Today. If you have to, go there and stand in the front office and don't leave till you get your child's foot on the way to being fixed. If the foot is corrected, and the shoes applied properly (you are an expert now - you won't make any more mistakes) they won't hurt his feet. But the sores MUST be healed well and the heel needs to drop down before you try again. He didn't have the tenotomy? Can you take a pic of you dorsiflexing his foot profile view too? Something is funky if you can't even GET the heel down into the shoe. LMK if you're not a member of CFPics, and I'll make sure to get you subbed right away. You can fill out the form later. No biggie. Let's just get this little boy's foot corrected. It's a long weekend, if you don't get something done today it won't be till Tuesday next week and he'll absolutely loose whatever correction he's got. But do NOT put those shoes back on. Loosing correction is absolutely preferable to making those sores hurt him more. Let us know how it goes, I might go out on the island this weekend, but my cell # is if you need. And the rest of the great parents are here, I'm not the only expert on sores around here you know. Lots of us have been through this, many who needed more correction (in fact most). Hang in there, it WILL get better. Kori Mama of Kenton 6/98 Merek 3/00 Darbi 3/03 - Rt. Guest guest
I hate to hear when there is a distinctively similar story to ours! Addisyn had the exact same experience as . She was in her shoes starting last Thurs. to that Sat and had gotten nickel size pressure sores on her heels as well. One of them opened up immediately and the other just opened up yesterday, a whole week later! They take forever to heal it seems like. After our ordeal is when I made the call to Dr Ponseti and he diagnosed her with the Atypical syndrome. Have you talked with him yet to see his feeling on the situation? He was very helpful to me and made me realize that we have expended our treatment options here with our current doctor so we are going to head out to Iowa and see the man himself. Let me know if there is any info I can help you with, as I have been the crazy woman trying to find more out about Atypical syndrome!! Mia > > >Thanks for the helpful information. Guest guest
I agree, take the shoes off. The sores will just get worse and then take longer to heal if you leave them on. Get in with the Dr. ASAP. It does sound like the foot is not fully corrected if you can't get the heel flat no matter what you try and if it is twisted inside the shoes. We did stretching excersises when Kaitlin's foot was out of the brace because of sores, you might try that. We were told to do them 10 times/hour awake IIRC. I remember being stressed about relapsing until we got in with the doctor. It will be okay even if a slight relapse does occur. It is better than painful sores that take forever to heal. You are likely looking at another cast anyways to let the sores heal. So, if you didn't get into see the doctor today, try not to feel too bad. You are doing all that you can. It is not your fault that the shoes aren't working properly. My heart is with you because I know that no matter how much you try to prepare for something like this, you can't and that sucks.
