Guest guest
Ya, the big NO NO of removing them the night before - but this is exactly what our very first club foot doctor advised us to do, and being ignorant parents, we did that. s. Guest guest
Marilouise, Poor ..and all the babies that go through that terrifying experience with the saw. I am going to check with Dr. H before I soak. I hope he thinks its ok…I will let you know what he says. Are you going to the meeting on Saturday? Dr H said this is a BIG no no. I know that is not the suggestion from the other moms, they just suggest soaking it to soften right before you appt but I would DEFINITELY okay that with Dr H before you do it. I know you have a bit of a drive as do I and I asked him about taking it off before coming and he said absolutley not. He may be okay with softening it though. I'd like to know his response if you check with him! Guest guest
Hi , Please let me know what Dr. H says We won't be there Saturday due to Dr H's respected request to not bring children along if you were not invited for a demonstration. Since still nurses frequently through the day (especially at nap) I can't really leave her behind for the day. Hope to meet up with you one time. Any chance Christian will have an appt on the 13th? Guest guest
Havn't been able to check the board in awhile so I am a bit delayed in my responses, but Tyler's doc used the saw after his first casting and he was only a little over a week old. He always used the saw to cut his casts off. Until I got on this board I thought that was the only way there was to do it. Guest guest
I forgot to add in my other post that whenever the doc would cut Tyler's casts off when he was that young they would have me not feed him for 1 feeding before we went in the have them cut off, then he would drink his bottle cause he was hungry and the saw didn't really seem to bother him. He kinda just got used to it. Guest guest
screams during the cast changing as well. And this is the 2nd time around, when she was a newborn she cried every time until the very last (or what we thought was the very last ) cast change. I think she was finally used to it then. Now she is mad because we are doing this again. She gets so worked up she throws up sometimes. Poor thing. As soon as it is over, she is fine and a happy baby again. Either way, it doesn't make it any easier for the parents. Shook Retail Operations Manager/Baking Instructor Vie de France Yamazaki, Inc. 2070 Chain Bridge Rd. Guest guest
Hey girl. Sorry it's been so long. Sorry to hear Christian was so upset. Just remember he won't remember any of it, unfortunately we do! :-) I hope he's doing much better. Did I miss something though, I thought he was already in the DBB (done w/casts)? I know you had changed doctors, did he need to be recasted? Hope you and your family are doing well. Gerace cgerace@...> wrote: Christian had his first cast removed and his second cast applied. He was screaming through the entire process. The sound from the machine they used to cut the cast off started him off and then he wouldn't stop for anything. Please tell me a lot of your children cried during this ordeal also.. Guest guest
I agree about the fibreglass strips being wonderful! Nearly all of Jasper's casts were plaster bandage to the knee, with a knob left at the end so that we could soak and unroll them in the bath - about 5mins per leg. On top of this a fibreglass casting tape made by 3M was rolled to the groin which set hard, this unrolled easily when needed but stuck fast until then. This was breathable so the moisture from the plaster underneath could escape. On cast change mornings Jasper would end up in bed with us for his 5am feed during which time I'd unroll the fibreglass, then he'd get to kick his plasters around for a while while I woke up (to the rhythmic sound of 'clckety clack') which I figured gave his thigh muscles some exercise then into bath to wask that little bod and unwind the plaster and off for the next lot. The hospital said that this product is great for little babies as it is much much lighter than the alternatives and is easy to remove quickly at home if needed for any reason (such as cut off circulation). It isn't used on older babies/toddlers much as it cannot withstand the bashing around that they do when walking - the plaster underneath would be compromised. The 2 main reasons it isn't used is it's much higher cost then plaster, and lack of knowledge about it. Our tech throught that it was a bit mean to put plaster on for all that time when a lightweight alternative is available but babies are so resilient - they seem to adapt to all of their challenges - I wish I could be as strong!
