Guest guest
Hi , Those darn carbs! I eat tons of protein, fruit and veggies and love it all but I feel “fat and happy” after my carbs... And so empty when I don’t have them... But I actually gain weight as soon as I eat a carb... Even no butter popcorn! I hate this... Anyone have ANY ideas on this? Sue Sue, I do notice an increase in my appetite when my dose increases, but it's a good thing, because when I'm hypo, I barely eat at all, and the few things that are appealing to me are the worst things for me, especially carbs. I know when I'm craving bread with butter or bread with cheese that I'm hypo. And of course carbs cause me to gain weight too. I can eat all the meat and veggies I want, but not carbs and like you, they're my favorite. I just got my results yesterday, so my next blood work will be in 6 weeks. I'll probably see that big jump in appetite and energy soon, then it will wane until the end of that 6 week point, then I'll know where I am, whether I'm good or need a change. ]

Guest guest
Hi , I had a physical in April and they did complete bloodwork includiding CBC, glucose, b12, ferritin, female hormones, thyroid hormones, etc. and nothing my but my thryoid came up abnormal – any idea what to look for on the blood work other than the straight up glucose? I thought that was for diabetes... Or is there another test? Thanks! Sue Hi guys Are either of you insulin resistant by chance? Guest guest
H , I remember those tests from when I was pregnant — drinking that yucky super sickening sweet orange drink... Ok, well, I can talk to my doc about it cuz I do have gas and shakiness but good energy and memory — it’s always something, huh? Thanks! Sue Hi Sue If you have diabetes, your hemoglobin will be off-but if you're borderline-like hypoglycemic, they can do a fasting glucose test (it takes a long time to do) You drink sugar on an empty stomach..but there are lots of symptoms associated with hypoglycemia and its a precursor to diabetes II. but it can cause a lot of symptoms, like memory, shakiness inside, problems digesting, low energy, gas, palpitations, etc. If your blood sugar goes too low it sets off an adrenaline response.. Anyway, if you have it and they diagnose it, you can control it- Hope this helps -

Guest guest
Well - would say that getting enough natural meds should control your Hypoglycemia. Why are you on such a small dose after a TT ? Also - you can control HypoG with diet. Eat 8 or more mini meals a day making sure each mini meal has plenty of protein and NO SUGAR, WHITE FLOUR etc. Eat very little fruit and if you do - make sure you eat protein with it. Never drink fruit juices. Avoid caffeine, coffee, cola - even the artificially sweetened type. Carry a healthy snack wherever you go.Eat every 2 hours.Chromium may help.Keep a food diary of foods that make you worse ( ie hungry) > > Controlling hypoglycemia? > > How does one do that? > > ~E:) > > > > > > > ~EG Connecticut T-T 27 months ago - 58.03 mcg Synthetic > plus 112.5 mg Armour = 198.63 mcgs RATIO: 88 % T4 / 12% T3 > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Yahoo! Guest guest
If you decide to put yourself through this test make sure your Dr orders the correct one for Reactive Hypoglycemia. Its a 5 hour test with Glucose and Insulin measured every hour and pref every 1/2 hour. The 2 hour test doesn't tell you enough re HypoG/ pre diabetic. > > > > > > > > > > > Hi Sue > > > > If you have diabetes, your hemoglobin will be off-but if you're > > borderline-like hypoglycemic, they can do a fasting glucose test (it takes a > > long time to do) You drink sugar on an empty stomach..but there are lots of > > symptoms associated with hypoglycemia and its a precursor to diabetes II. > > > > but it can cause a lot of symptoms, like memory, shakiness inside, problems > > digesting, low energy, gas, palpitations, etc. If your blood sugar goes too > > low it sets off an adrenaline response.. > > > > Anyway, if you have it and they diagnose it, you can control it- > > > > Hope this helps - > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
That diet sounds AWUFL E--- very little fruit? Yikes! Fruit is one of my staples— and it keeps me “regular”. I eat tons of apples, grapes, strawberries and bananas...is that bad? Guest guest
Have you tried coconut oil ? That's supposed to help hypos lose weight - check it out on Shomon's site. And it does depend when you eat those carbs. The rule should be absolutely no carbs after 7 pm. Also, there are lots of other hormons involved in weight gain - HGH (Human Growth Hormon) for example. Perhaps you should have them all checked - if your thyroid hormone is off, so could others be. And finally, go easy on the strawberries - they are goitrogens, too - have you never noticed any ill effects after eating them ? Guest guest
Hi Guess I'll put my two cents in-when I went hypo, I went up to 174 pounds (last time I had the nerve to look at the scale) and I'm 5'2" My eating habits are good-and there was no reason I should have weighed that much other than the fact I was hypothyroid. Soooo I started juicing my food-at least once a day. For me, that was the ticket. I lost almost 50 pounds-I still have a little to go, but even if I dont lose much more, I'll be satisfied with it. And I have to admit, sometimes I was a little hungry-but I've heard from "Bob" on Oprah, that when you are a little hungry before bed, that means your body is getting rid of fat. So dont get up and get something to eat. lol I have heard that juicing your food raises your metabolism-dont know if thats true-just know it worked Hope that helps liliane wise wrote: Have you tried coconut oil ? Guest guest
The calory content of strawberries is irrelevant. They are goitrogens, and can make some hypos (like me) very ill. Do you not think that 6pm is a little late for your last meal of the day ? That makes for a very long night. It's not a good idea to go for so long without food, as Topper keeps saying. Try having a protein/vegetable snack around 8/9pm. That would help your HGH and melatonine production, which in turn might help you with your weight. Guest guest
Hi Lili, What I said is I have dinner at 6 PM and THEN USUALLY DO have a snack of fruit or popcorn, And no, I don’t think 6 pm is LATE for my last meal. In fact — you state that 6 PM is TOO LATE for my last meal ---- but then you say it makes for a very long night without food. I am so confused over what your point is... Can you clarify? Once again - I eat mini meals throughout the day, “dinner” at 6 pm and snack before bed – but not bad carbs if possible. Thanks, Sue The calory content of strawberries is irrelevant. Guest guest
People that are Insulin Resistant , Pre Diabetic cannot even tolerate frucose. It increases Insulin just as a sugar drink would. Eating protein with fruit can slow down this spike. But an excess of fruit in a day would be bad for an Insulin Resistant , long term. > > > >> > > > > >> > Controlling hypoglycemia? > > > >> > > > > >> > How does one do that? > > > >> > > > > >> > ~E:) > > > >> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Retrouvez tout en un clin d'oeil avec la barre d'outil MSN Search ! > http://desktop.msn.fr/ >
Guest guest
Then why the fruit or popcorn. Why raise your Insulin levels before bed? There is no protein in this meal. Why not half the portion size of your 6pm meal and eat the remainder as supper? > > > Hi Lili, > > What I said is I have dinner at 6 PM and THEN USUALLY DO have a snack of > fruit or popcorn, > And no, I don¹t think 6 pm is LATE for my last meal. >
Guest guest
I'm confused about why you're confused. If you have your last meal at 6pm and breakfast at, say, 6am, that means 12 hours without food - a long night. And, as I said, it's bad to go for long periods without food - that's why Topper recomends mini-meals. Where's the confusion ? Also, you ought to revise your goitrogens - see Topper's Thyroid Phenix - you seem to eat a lot of them - corn in any form is another. Hope this helps. > >Reply-To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group >To: <The_Thyroid_Support_Group > >Subject: Re: Re: carbs, fat and hypo >Date: Sun, 06 Aug 2006 00:11:49 -0500 > > >Hi Lili, > >What I said is I have dinner at 6 PM and THEN USUALLY DO have a snack of >fruit or popcorn, >And no, I don¹t think 6 pm is LATE for my last meal. > >In fact ‹ you state that 6 PM is TOO LATE for my last meal ---- >but then you say it makes for a very long night without food. >I am so confused over what your point is... > >Can you clarify? > > Once again - I eat mini meals throughout the day, ³dinner² at 6 pm and >snack before bed but not bad carbs if possible. > >Thanks, >Sue > > > > > > > > > > > > > The calory content of strawberries is irrelevant. Guest guest
The concept behind mini meals, especially with hypos.... is to help with efficient digestion, consistent energy and nutrition levels... and the tools/ingredients the body needs for conversion. A carby snack... or a fruit snack... or a vegie snack.... all these things are quick to digest... leaving the body with a spike in blood sugar levels that are quickly burned off..... after that the blood stream is shot on calories/energy and that is when energy levels, attention span, and hormone conversion drop.... For us the big deal is the hormone conversion. That's our LIFE. Yeah, we can take supplemental T3.... but it's the consistent conversion that fills in the T3 receptors when the T3 that you took by pill has been flushed from the blood. Where carbs and sugars are quick to digest and 'burn' proteins and fats are slower to process to the point where sugars are available to be used... for energy, for body function, for hormone conversion. Just thoughts I'm throwing out as we all discuss this stuff with what and when to eat and blood sugars and such..... When I got into body building.... that all involved nutrition too... I had to learn ways of fueling my body for energy and muscle growth as well as to satisfy nutritional needs and the desire to have something good to eat too.... My snack during those years was often popcorn... BUT it wasn't plain... Nope.... It was doctored to be filling and last a while... You guys will cringe... but I still like to make it this way... I eat a LOT less this way... have my popcorn crunchy fix... and don't get hungry and hour later.... When I have bacon grease available I use half bacon grease and half butter... otherwise just butter.... I use NO salt and I used grated parmesan cheese... Pop the popcorn, air popper, popcorn popper, or stove top... NOT microwave bags..... Drizzle the butter over the top and toss... .then sprinkle on the cheese and toss..... After all the talk of food last night... I had a bit of a rumbly tummy... so I brought a snack into the bedroom with me.... One of my mini buns with some crunchy peanut butter on top, nothing else. Slept like a baby... hehehehehe Topper () *who does between five and seven mini meals a day Today's menu: turkey burger rice stoup (thick soup) oatmeal crusted turkey burger patty (think on the order of crunchy fried chicken like thing) chocolate iced cinnamon roll oatmeal crusted turkey burger patty turkey burger rice stoup egg sandwich (scrambled egg, salad dressing, home made mini bun) peanut butter on mini bun (budget isn't allowing fruits or vegies right now.... so I've had to juggle - vitamins and minerals are taken with four of the meals... plenty of water during the day. I can't drop weight with this schedule.. but don't gain on it either, and have good energy levels, no gerd or reflux, good potty times)* On Sun, 06 Aug 2006 09:52:34 +0200 " liliane wise " writes: > I'm confused about why you're confused.
