I think you're stressing out too much :-) Usually we cooled the car

off before putting my daughter in (open it up and run the A/C for a

few mins). If you don't feel it is cool enough you can take the band

off for a little while in the car. If you can move the vaccinations a

few days it might be less stressful for you, but not essential. Do you

give him tylenol when he gets a fever after the vax? If so you can

just keep your eye on it and give tylenol as needed. My daughter

tended to get a fever too, but low grade. Tylenol took care of it.

I would say just play it by ear when you see how he's doing. Your 8

year old will probably be disappointed if you don't go and maybe he'll

do better than you expect.

They do get sweaty the first week or so. Make sure you dress him

lighter - no socks etc. Let us know how he does.

You have lots going on! I think you're stressing just a little too

much too, but I know it's hard not to. I can tell you this, I bet it

all goes a lot better than you prepare yourself for. I don't know

about the vaccinations, my son hasn't gotten a fever with his. I

would think moving it to Monday can only be a good thing if you can

manage it, just with the crankiness and everything. I would

definitely go to the play. You're daughter would be so disappointed.

The sweat is not that big of a deal. Our therapist said to take my

son's band off every couple of hours and towel dry his head and the

band, and that's just what I did. He will be sweaty, but it's

manageable.

I was prepared for the worst when my son got his band. We have to

drive 3 hours to Charlotte to go to Cranial Tech and stay with my in-

laws. When he was going to be fitted, I was prepared to stay for

days while he adjusted, thinking that he was going to get red spots,

problems, etc., made my daughter miss school, prepared the teachers

that my son might be out of school for a week or more as he adjusted

(he's in a toddler program), was packed for a week's stay, just in

case (I didn't want to have to drive back for an adjustment a day

later). He fussed for like 5 seconds when they put it on his head,

and that was it. He slept in it that first night for 12 hours and

didn't make a peep. The next day we went home and he was in the car

for 3 hours, no problem. Now, every child might not be as easy as

that, but I bet most moms will say that their child adjusted way

better than they expected, and way better than the moms themselves!

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best! But definitely go to

the play, you'll be upset if you don't.

Good luck!

Also, I'm a firm believer that a baby feeds off the mom's emotions,

so if your son senses your stress, he might become stressed as well.

The more laid back and matter of fact you are through the whole

process, the easier it will be on him.

Plus, I was just thinking again how my 4-year-old daughter was

basically a nightmare that first week of the band. I think she

sensed our attention was focused on Jake and his new hat, and she

acted out to say " hey! what about me? " So that just reiterates, for

me anyway, that you should go to the play!

Hope all goes well!

One more thing, I mentioned to our ortho (in PHX) that I was so

thankful my son was banded before it got hot (Feb.-April). Her

comment was that they actually see more issues in the cooler months

because people are out more and that in the summer months they see

less heat rashes, etc.
