Lynda,

How long have you been taking the hydrocortisone? I have been on treatment

for my adrenals for 9 months now and only have a few more to go before they

take me off treatment. I have been looking for others that have taken this

treatment and been taken off. I wanted to find out what they expierienced

once the treatement was over? Anyone taken treatment for their Adrenals and

care to share the results?

I was taking hydrocortisone for about 9 months, then switched to deltacortril 3

to 4 months ago. I feel better on the delta

How do you know when you adrenals are repaired? When on Cortef, it shuts

down the adrenals...so how would you know? The doc told me in a few months

we will start the process of weining off and I would get very sick for about

2-3 months while my adrenals try to kick back on. Have you went through

this?

I agree with you Lynda the operative word is in porportion which usually means

physiologic doses which do not suppress the adrenals. I have read on other

groups that 's book is not held in great esteem as is Jefferies. I am on

physiologic doses and am doing better but am not ready to come off it yet

either. I am not worried about it when I do decide either. Deb

I think the important part is " in proportion to the dosage "

According to Jefferies in the Safe Uses of Cortisol 20mg hydrocortisone is a

safe dosage, I am taking 5mg delta which is equal to that.

Truth is I haven't tried to come off it yet, when I do I let you know how I

feel.

I don't have any crashes, I feel consistently better on it.

I have looked at it and I just finished reading Dr 's book that states

it does shut down the adrenals. From the crashes I have on it, I feel that

it does shut them down. Do you also have these crashes? When I have mine,

my muscles get very weak and feel like weights. I will feel dizzy and very

fatigue too.

Well that was an extreme case. Yesterday after I ate lunch... I got very

dizzy and my vision was blurry. I have never had any kind of eye

problems... I felt pretty tired too. I'm just trying to understand how to

control the symptoms better.

I don't know if I can answer all your questions but I will tell you what is up

with me and maybe that will help. First off hypoglycemia is adrenal related. I

was diagnosed in 1987. So my adrenals were not working properly as long ago as

that and I can even remember back in high school when I got really hungry and

did not eat I would get so sick I would throw up. That's all adrenals not

functioning properly. The crashes may be just what your doc said. If you are

under any additional stress whether it is physical or emotional you need to

compensate with alittle more cortef. 20mg is considered a phsyiologic dose and

does not as far as anything I have read shut down your adrenals. I am not sure

why your doc paints such a drastic picture of coming off cortef. It is done

gradually so your adrenals adapt slowly and you may be alittle tired but I

really don't forsee that you should be very ill for several months. deb

under any additional stress whether it is physical or emotional you need to

compensate with alittle more cortef. 20mg is considered a phsyiologic dose and

does not as far as anything I have read shut down your adrenals. I am not sure

why your doc paints such a drastic picture of coming off cortef. It is done

gradually so your adrenals adapt slowly and you may be alittle tired but I

really don't forsee that you should be very ill for several months. deb

Yes, Peatfield is another great doc who writes about this. Sorry to hear

isn't on this group anymore she has given me great advice about adrenals before.

Re: Lynda...adrenals

I agree with you Lynda the operative word is in porportion which usually

means physiologic doses which do not suppress the adrenals. I have read on

other groups that 's book is not held in great esteem as is Jefferies. I

am on physiologic doses and am doing better but am not ready to come off it yet

either. I am not worried about it when I do decide either. Deb

Deb,

I agree with what you guys are saying. It's just I have these crashes when

I'm not even under stress. They just come from now where. They last

anywhere from 15 mintues - 3 days. I have times where my muscles will go

weak and I get soooo sleepy. If I lay down for 15-30 minutes it seems to

help and it goes away sometimes. Do you know why these occur? What has

been your expierience?

I sometimes get blurry vision too, sometimes it lasts all day.

I would recommend that you get hold of Dr Jeffries book The Safe Uses of

Cortisol, I don't have a lot of faith in what your doc is telling you. If he

is so concerned about the consequences why did he put you on it in the first

place

Lynda

Re: Lynda...adrenals

Well that was an extreme case. Yesterday after I ate lunch... I got very

dizzy and my vision was blurry. I have never had any kind of eye

problems... I felt pretty tired too. I'm just trying to understand how to

control the symptoms better.

I'm sorry felt she had to leave as well.

If you have any kind of issues with female hormones and you want to join 's

This sounds like a typical thyroid crash! Just running out of T3. I used to do

that all the time in my pre-Armour days. Increasing my dosage and splitting them

has stopped this. I would even do this sometimes on 4.5 grains a day when I was

dosing 2 times a day then I broke my dose up to four times a day where I have no

more " slumps " as I call them. Mine had nothing to do with adrenals. It felt like
