A baby girl in this house would have been called Catriona - we kept that

decision for nearly 10 years without changing our minds! I would have been

called (my younger brother's name) if I had been a boy, my sister

would have been Barry.

Another name thing - what about babies that you have lost in pregnancy. We

lost our first baby, a boy, at 20 weeks and thought long and hard about

giving him a name but decided not to in the end. If he had been born when

expected, he was to be called but we decided we didn't want to use

this name as we wanted it to be there as a tangible hope that there would be

a healthy baby in the future (sounds daft, doesn't it). On the other hand,

we felt it was disrespectful to him to give him a " second-best " name, so he

was, and always will be, " Baby Garland " . All the rest of the boys have been

named as soon as they were born so that they never had Baby Garland written

on their cot tag.

Interesting comment, . I knew someone expecting a baby who

was adamant that if a boy, he would be called , after her

beloved brother. After the baby was born I was slightly surprised to

hear that he had been named , instead.

Then, tragically, at about 9 weeks, was found dead in his cot.

Three or four years later she had another little boy, this time named

, after her brother.

I've wondered ever since whether somehow she 'knew' her first son

wasn't going to make it. seemed 'other worldly' to me, on the

couple of occasions I saw him. He somehow didn't respond as other

babies did and looked an unbabyish colour, although no problems were

detected at birth or at a PM.

So sad, especially when I remember that would be nearly 20,

now.

Phoebe would have been Maximillian had she been a boy

Eloisa well.. We had agreed on either Harold (Harry) or but about 3

weeks before I went off Harold and dh went of so we had NO boy's

name. In fact my mw was suggesting boy's names for us while I was in labour.

I think she would probably had been as that was the only one we

both said Yesss that is quuiiite nice to ....

We never did give the baby we lost through m/c a name I just think upon her

(always thought it was a girl) as my angel. I planted a rose bush in the

garden to remember her by though, and on the Morning Eloisa was born (Jan

6th) it had one single pink rose blossom made me feel like my angel was

telling me everything was ok and she was watching over us..

...my friend played Lucy Perks in The Archers)

Wasn't Maxim the Christian name of Mr. DeWinter in (Daphne Du

Maurier)?

I do find that a lot of people seem to like the same kind of names. Like I

took Phoebe and Eloisa to this indoor play area and got talking to a mum

when we realised that her youngest daughter was Phoebe to and her oldest

daughter was Elisa (pretty close to Eloisa)

Freya's twin has never had a name. In fact, through the remainder of that

pregnancy, I hardly ever thought about him (no idea what gender the baby was

but am sure I'd have had mixed twins!), as until we lost him, we had no idea

I was pg, and after we knew I'd lost him it was such a relief to find a live

baby on the scan that it wasn't until after she was born that it sunk in

that she should have been a they.

I had a brother, Tom, who was stillborn - placental abruption - and have

always felt he was a presence in my life (I was 2 at the time). I hope in

some ways that Freya will feel the same about her twin.

Anyway, I've always fancied calling a son Tom as a mn, but DH doesn't like

it!

I love Maximillian but didn't even suggest it as a name as I had a crush on

someone called Max as a teenager and all my friends would have laughed if

I'd called my son after him ;-). Kieran could have been a Dominic but I

only thought of it after we'd named him, and agreed he liked it as a

name as well... maybe next time?

Of course 'Phoebe' will have been made popular because of TV show 'Friends'.

There's also a 'Phoebe' in the TV show 'Charmed' - don't know if they show

that in the UK (it's about 3 sisters who are good witches).

I worked at a FE College at there were a lot of Lukes. Talking about it

with a colleague we realised that it was 17/18 years (at the time) since the

release of Star Wars.

Carys was nearly a Tegan until I discovered there was a character in

Home and Away called that and I didn't want people to think I'd named

her after a soap character - particularly one I don't even watch!! I

used to quite like until I watched Eastenders!!

Oh you have to be brave to do that... I had a very public crush on someone

called from the age of about 13 to 16. Thought long and hard

about the implications of calling my son by that name, but at the end of the

day, it was my favourite boy's name, and Rob's favourite name too. Anyway,

those school friends that I am still in touch with have never even commented

(to me anyway) about our choice of name.

So keep Max on your list Cerys!

I had it on relatively good authority that I am named after one of my dad's

old girlfriends! He says that he just liked 'how the name fitted together'.

I do have to admit though, I was a 'Graeme' until I was born ;) My mum had

heard of a new zealand jockey called 'Graeme Thorner' and was

determined to call me that. She finally managed when my brother was born 7

years later.

She really struggled for a name for my sister - she was an Elaine until my

mum went to register her and changed her name then and there!

My brother was going to be a 'Philip Thorn' until someone pointed out

that he initials were 'PG T' and kids just love that sort of thing. He's now

a ' Philip' but my mum insisted on calling him 'Philip' - that was

until he was 14 when he decided to use . My kids call him 'Uncle

Phil' although Phil was determined to be an 'Uncle Steve' but it just

confused the issue.

My eldest has 3 first names (and his surname can be a forename) and my

second has 2 although I did want to add one later, but I can't think of one.

This is another reason why I'm glad Mia was a girl - if she had been a

boy she would have been Jake and I would hate people to think my child

had been named after a Tweenie! (even though she was born a couple of

months before Tweenies started!)
