I really think that you will like it, especially the Raspberry-Lemonade

flavor, I personally think it is to die for.

Hi Isabella.

These are the reasons I learned why soda is not " recommended " for

WLS patients. All doctors have their own protocols and reasons.

There are no absolutes.

1. Soda is not a healthy food. The carbonation leeches calcium from

our bones. As we lose massive amount of weight we suffer bone loss.

Therefore we, especially women are at risk for bone loss and/or

calcium deficiency.

2. Diet soda has artificial sweeteners which cause cause an increase

in appetite due to a spike in insulin in the blood.

3. Because we have small pouches, the gas bubbles from the

carbonation can cause us painful gas. The carbonation also causes

air in the pouch which can interfere with our digestion and cause

diarrhea.

4. Diet soda does not take the place of water, which is highly

necessary for WLS patients. Soda is not healthy for anyone and

therefore it is considered a bad behavior food that we as WLS

patients should eliminate from our post op diets.

I was also told that it would expand the pouch because of the carbonation

bubbles causing the stomach or in our case the pouch to expand and contract

and over time it will cause the pouch to stretch.
