I don't do a lot of foot rubbing, she's always walking on them lol... but at night, sometimes when she wakes all she needs (vs nursing) is for me to rub her calves. Sometimes I squeeze her feet in her shoes. Both feet. And both calves. It often puts her right back to sleep. Rubbing her back or butt or whatever doesn't seem to do the same thing. I squeeze her calves and she's often right back to sleep. It's hard to know if her legs or feet hurt - when she had splinters in her feet (bad mama let her outside without shoes a few times) she'd reach down indicating something was wrong with her foot. But when she's asleep and wakes and needs her legs massaged she doesn't grab at them or anything so I don't know if it's pain or what that makes her so happy that they're getting massaged. I *assume* they're bothering her since she goes right back to sleep, but I don't *know*. Anyone with older children wearing the brace have a clue about this? Do they tell you their legs or feet ache when in the brace? Kori Mama of Kenton 6/98 Merek 3/00 Darbi 3/03 - Rt. Guest guest
Evan isn't in the brace anymore but he does go thru periods where he seems to have a lot of foot cramps. I can actually feel the tendons on the bottom of his foot kindof spasming and he wakes up really crying. Having him get up and walk around and bend his feet makes them go away. I have no idea if this is due to the cf or not--maybe just growing pains. I had foot cramps when I was pregnant and it is no picnic. Thank goodness it goes in spurts. He hasn't had this for awhile now. He's never said anything about his calves hurting at all. And believe me, he articulates about the foot cramps!!! and Evan (8-17-00 bcf) > >And yes, I am constantly rubbing > >his feet. Guest guest
I think it's safe to assume there's a certain amount of discomfort from wearing the brace - imagine having yourself cramped up and unable to move freely for several hours, kwim? Rubbing the part would make it feel better, loosen the muscles that can't move to loosen themselves. s. Guest guest
Kori- Yes, sometimes tells us that his legs/feet hurt in the brace. We talked to Dr. Dobbs about it last visit and he said it was likely growing pains. He does tend to do it in spurts. He said to give him some tylenol or motrin when it seems to be bothering him. I also use blankets and pillows to prop up his legs when they are bothering him. Pam and (8-12-01) > >And yes, I am constantly rubbing > >his feet.
