Guest guest
My mum doesn't have one. Mine is Grace, which I hated as a child - thought it dreadfully old-fashioned - but I like it a lot now. I was named after my mum's mum who died when my mum was 16. Her name was Alice Grace (although for some peculiar reason she was known as Queenie), so I became Alison Grace. Alison I just thought I would start a thread about middle names. Mine is Ruth, my Mum's is Joyce. Lynda
Guest guest
Mine and my Mum's are after my Gran. The Children are - for no reason other than we liked the names (and she's insisted on Alice as a third name) Kieran - after my Dad & after DH's Dad Cerys -----Original Message----- > I just thought I would start a thread about middle names. Spooky really 'cause we never considered the name until after his birth, when it just came to and seemed to suit him perfectly - so he is named after his grandfather, and great-grandfather ) Hannah, 27 Mum to Bethany 7, Lawrence 5 1/2, Verity almost 3, Alfie 3 months Visit me on the web at :- http://hannahshome.20m.com
Guest guest
> I just thought I would start a thread about middle names. Mine is Ruth, my > Mum's is Joyce. Sadly I don't have a middle name although my forename is hyphenated and often mistaken for 2 names i.e. -Jane My DS is Aubrey His third name after my Dad who died whilst I was pregnant. DH has Harry which is a family name but none of the male cousins have used it either! My SIL gave her DD and DS her maiden name as their third name i.e. ; thinking that her brother (my DH) wouldn't get around to having children and this was the only way to pass the name on! My middle name is Louise (after my maternal grandmother). Tabby's proper name is Tabitha Grace. 'Grace' I just liked partly because it is old fashioned and also because it is the title of one of my favourite albums (by Jeff Buckley). Actually it seems really popular all of a sudden, I know a couple of babies with 'Grace' as a first name and more with it as a second name. As a child I used to spend ages choosing all my children's names. I always intended to give my children two middle names but seeing as Tabby has a double barrelled surname (Oakley-Brown) we thought another name would be downright cruel and just make her sound even more like an 'It girl'! -- (24) Mum to Tabby (17 months)

Guest guest
DH & I only have 1 name so was determined to have the boys with 2 names: Jack (Jack after both of our dads) ( after my maternal granddad & uncle) Isaac (Isaac because we liked it & after our Parish Priest!) Since then I have discovered a few Isaac's in our family tree so have used a family name without realising it. The 1st baby we lost we named Francesca in our hearts but the 2nd baby I could not bring myself to name, but always felt that she would have been a girl as well. I don't think we had girl names for Jack & but Isaac would have been either Lily Marie. Had discovered the existence of Phineas (way back in our family tree) before I had the boys I can truthfully say that I would not have used it! Guest guest
Mine is (after my maternal grandmother). Considered naming DD the same but wasn't convinced. Poor girl was nameless for a whole day until we decided on a name we both liked - Natalia (which was our original middle name choice). Her middle name is Magda (which I wanted as a first name)! She's not named after anybody which caused hell to break lose with my MIL. Greeks still *always* name their children after their grandparents (usually sons after paternal grandfathers and daughters after maternal grandmothers). You only get free reign if you have 3 of the same sex!!! My MIL went absolutely ballistic that DD wasn't named after her and gave DH an absolute scolding - what would she look like to others!!!! (She's not happy that DD isn't baptised Greek Orthodox either). I've known of some Greeks whose parent wouldn't speak to them because they didn't name the grandchild after them - it's ridiculous. Funnily enough my brother (who doesn't have a tradition to follow, as such) has named all three of his children after family members - going back generations for his DD (he's also carried on )!! He's also carried on the 'what has become tradition' of the eldest son being called . His son is, he is, my dad is, my grandad was, so was his father ....... and so on back about another 6 generations! So maybe it is a tradition after all - but nobody was expecting it! Guest guest
Oh yes - I'm sure that happens here to. It's always joked that there are only 3 boys (/Iannis, /Yiorgos and Nick/Nikos) and 3 girls names (Helen/Eleni, and /Katerina) in use in Greece. That's the problem with always using the same names - no new names. Here they also celebrate namesday (saint's feast day of your name) big time. So since you easily know at least five/ten people with the names above on their feast days you spend a large chunk of your evening phoning them giving them best wishes. (Namesdays are celebrated like birthdays, with gifts and party/going out; birthdays are a much more family affair. Reason being - everybody knows your name and appropriate feast day; not many will know your birthday). Guest guest
I think the 'son' goes at the end of the surname, which is the first name of the father..... so would have been: Robson and Caitlin: Caitlin Robdaughter We have a good Icelandic friend - Kristjan Kristjanson, whose son is Hler Kristjanson and his children will be ........ Hlerson / Hlertochter (not sure of spelling). Anyway - I'm pretty sure that's right. So we carried this on with DH and his middle name is Evan, which is welsh for , his daddy (DH) DH's first son (DSS) middle name is Rhys.
