I`m Barbara Louise.......& DDs are

Eleanor Jane (so she could choose to use a simple name if she didn`t

like Eleanor - also it is SIL1`s name)

Louise after me

What about those names you didn`t use, i.e. the boys's names you had

prepared, when the baby turned out to be a girl, or vice versa? Did

you keep the same ones, ready for the next one? I didn`t......

Mine would have been

Eleanor -------- - though a friend 'stole' it a couple

of months before.Also there were 2 s born in the same NCT

branch on the same day, so I found out in the next n/l! (but we found

out from a scan that she was a girl anyway)

-------- Adam (but I was starting to prefer )

-------second name - prob , the maiden name of both my maternal

grandmother and DH`s mum!

going to ask Dad this afty what I would have been if I`d been a boy.

He only has one name so we only gave our dds one name each (Basically I

couldn't come up with a good enough argument for two names each and besides

it took us ages to agree on one name each, never could come up with a boys

name - we were destined to have girls!)

Anyway, girls being girls, they decided one name was not enough and chose

their own second names:

Eleanor Jane

Rosie Lucinda - well it was this but reading over my shoulder she has just

announced it should be Lucy

Rosie is really nna - but she can't stand the name :-( shame because I

love it.

If Caitlin had been a boy, she would have been Jack, but by the

time I was expecting Mia, our boys choice had changed to Jake .

Although, each time we decided on girls names really easily, but

struggled with boys names (in fact final decisions wer made in the car

on the way to hospital each time!)

That's what I feel about my two! We recently went to my sisters

wedding and this weekend a friends Christening to say the boys were

*lively* is putting it kindly. My mind boggles that I even

occassionally contemplate any more.

DS1 would have been Bethany (or possibly, Anastasia!!!!)

DS2 would have been Bethany (definitely not Anastasia, by then)

If DD2 had been a boy he would have been nameless forever. DH and I

couldn't agree over a single boys name, though I like Philip, Benedict

and Christian, for starters. Luckily I had an amnio so we knew we

were expecting a girl. At the time of her birth we had whittled names

down to Beatrice, Imogen and Ghislaine. We couldn't decide a second

name for at least a week, IIRC.

We never had a boys name - we were still discussing it in labour. We called

the bump Herbert (as in the little herberts) as a joke then horror dawned as

we realised Herbert was actually and old family name of DH's. We honestly

never never knew that Uncle Bert was really a Herbert, and moreover the last

in a long line of Herberts...

DH's parents were so pleased!

Then emergency section time and the mw says to DH - what are you going to

call your baby? Eleanor says he. What if it's a boy? Don't have a boys name.

Well you have to give me name, any name will do, you can always change it

later (WHY oh why did she insist, I do not know to this day!) So DH said Oh

put down Herbert!!!! I was out of it but I heard him say that!

So 30 minutes later when he is starting to get worried about what has

happened to me he asked a mw - she came back and told him he had a healthy

son

Meanwhile my mw is trying to wake me up with gentle slap to face and saying

" Eleanor's here " . Honestly, my very first waking thought as a mother was

" Thank God it's not Herbert "

Minutes later we were reunited with DH and there followed a slightly

confusing scene....

She was very definitely an Eleanor!!!

DS - Ethan - wanted it to be Ethan but DH disallowed that! - if

he'd been a girl it would have been Tabitha Cerys

DH - Philip Allan - His father was drunk when he went to register him and was

told Philip with 2 L's and Allan with 1 L - hmm MIL was not impressed!

Me - Joanne Frances - not sure were any of them came from, but if I'd been a buy

I would have been Green, because my father liked the initals of

Oooh, you'd get on with my friend, Louise, then Lesley. She has a son called

Benedict and a daughter called Imogen.

We had girls names from the word go - Eleanor Grace Louise - but never got to

use them. Luke has (dh's grandfather was and mine was

, but we didn't choose them because of this, but don't disabuse family

members if they choose to think that we did!). Zachary is and

is Mark. MIL got a bit funny at one point and complained that I'd

gone all religious, conveniently forgetting that her son had a say in the names

as well as me, and what does she think the names are?

his half brother 2 - ? (can't remember)

Seems to be particularly popular on this list! Oddly, IRL we don't know

a single other Isobel with that spelling.

My dds are Isobel and Eleanor Maisie. Both have my surname as

a third middle name. for me, obviously, although if her first

name hadn't been Isobel, her middle name would probably have been

, for my Mother. Maisie was what my paternal grandmother was

known as, although her given name was actually n - I've never

worked out how this became Maisie. Actually, dh had final choice for

dd2s names, and I have a sneaking suspicion that it was something to do

with Maisy Mouse!

If either had been a boy, they would have been Steuart (my FIL is

Steuart with that spelling - I think it is an old family surname). Never

had any arguments about that one, although it took us a long time to

come up with two girls names.
