I had my surgery on Oct. 2. I personally would not have felt like going back

to work 2 weeks after. I had gallbladder surgery in 1987 and the surgeon had to

do about 30 minutes of work removing adhesions from that surgery before they

could begin the gastric bypass procedure. That caused me a lot of discomfort.

It was uncomfortable for me to even sit at the computer for at least 2 weeks

after. Yesterday was four weeks out. This is the best week I've had. I really

feel pretty much " back to normal " ...except with the added benefit of more

energy! But everyone is different. And without the adhesion issues I may have

been fine 2 weeks out. Don't push yourself. Good luck!

I know this has probably been discussed numerous times, so I apologize

for asking again.....but how long did you typically wait before

returning to work after the surgery? And how long before you could

drive? My surgeon says 2 weeks is typical.

I hate depending on others. I also hate sitting around the house. I

can do some work remotely, but I get stir crazy. My work just involves

sitting at a computer for the most part so that wouldn't be strenuous.

If I can drive and IF I feel relatively OK, what would be the problem?

I expect I'll feel generally yucky and tired, but if there aren't

complications, what else would keep me home? I enjoy my job and many

of my coworkers are my friends, so I think that psychologically I

would be better at work than at home.

One of the ladies at the support group meeting was back at her

restaurant job at 2 weeks. I figure if she can do that, then I should

be able to fly a desk sooner than that.

I feel funny asking questions like this because I am being optimistic

about my recovery and don't want to come across like I am poo-pooing

the severity of the surgery. I'll probably get a lot of " I told you

so's " if I feel like crap afterwards and don't want to do anything.

Thanks,

I'd be surprised if someone with your attitude, drive and mindset

would be able to STAND being home more than two weeks. You'll have to

listen to your body but if I was a betting man I wouldn't be stopping

by your house to wish you well after two weeks, I'd call you at work.

I also drive a desk and I went back after 2 weeks with no real problems. I was

tired and got winded easier, but that's to be expected. I could have gone back

after 10 days but my boss needed a back to work slip and my Doc had to change my

appt. I have done fairly well and at 6 weeks out only feel it on those

occassions when I really overdo it. Like the last 2 weekends for our Haunted

House. it's typically 2 weeks of exhaustion, malnutrition, dehydration, and for

some, hangover, so yeah, I was absolutely whipped, but other than that, I have

been fine.
