Methods of Measurement?

Hi,

My 12-month old son has plagio, and probably brachy as well. We first

noticed at 5 months, 1 month after he stopped sleeping on the " incline

to sleep " foam. We were told it was pretty mild and would probably

work itself out. At 9 months the flatness became more noticeable, but

the doctor ruled out a CT scan for craniosynotosis until 12 months

since she could still feel his soft-spot. Now that he is a year he has

noticeable assymetry in his eyes, and despite his hair being about 2

inches long in back, his head still looks crooked and has become much

worse since we first noticed the flatness 7 months ago.

My question is, what type of measurements should I request to assess

severity, and what is the best way to measure? We are currently

stationed overseas in Japan, and any treatment would most likely mean a

trip back to the states and, from what I'm reading, a 6-month

separation from Daddy if we opt for band treatment. We will be in

Hawaii next week and I'm hoping for a referral to a bigger hospital,

but I'm not sure what to ask for, since there are no Cranial Tech

clinics in Oahu. I have seen the visual assessments on the Cranial

Tech site, but I'm hoping for something more specific.

This group is great. Thanks for any assistance.

Hi ,

Different providers measure differently, but there is a file in the

files section under STARscanner reports with a sample report and

explanation of the measurements. At the DOCband location we visit

they measure asymmetry with eye to ear and nose to ear instead of

the 30 degree measurements, but the width/length ratio for brachy is

the same. Good luck!
