Guest guest
Hi Kris, I can't remember what size my uterus is and I don't have my radiology report on me right now. But I recall that my doctor said that my uterus was " enlarged " . Your uterus is going to be larger if you have one decent size fibroid and yes there is a possibility that there are little ones that were missed on your abdomnial/pelvic sonogram. That is not unusual. You really need to write down all your questions and concerns and confront them with your doctor. Also it couldn't hurt to ask for a copy of the ultrasound pictures and the report as well. They usually charge you a few bucks but its good to have on you when you start going to see other doctors for second opinons and such. I finally picked mine up yesterday from the radiologist just to find out my doctor withheld information from me, about my body and now I'm very pissed off. Remember to find out what type of fibroid you have. Have you been reading any books on fibroids? The more you educate yourself the more comfortable you will feel. Take care, Shaunah " Primum no nocere " > Hey everyone! > I was just thinking... Guest guest
a (nice name by the way), My ob/gyn was shocked at my " 20 week " uterus (compared to the size of a pregnant woman) in August and said " I was surprised to see someone so thin with such a large belly " . Nice guy. Anyway, we found a 10cm and two 5cm fibroids and I am having a Myomectomy on Friday to get them removed (only because I can no longer urinate in the mornings). I was on the 'wait and see' venue... but now it's getting annoying. I wanted a UAE, but the IR wasn't sure, because it is located right on my bladder, that I would get enough relief... so myo it is. So, yes my regular ob/gyn (not a fibroid expert) was alarmed by the size of my uterus and that I had not come in sooner with complaints, but the one doing the surgery (who does fibroids all the time) was not surprised and said it is at about 10cm (or 12-20 week size) that most women notice and come in to see why this is happening. I fully expect on Friday for them to tell me that there are actually 5 or more fibroids because of the size of my stomach, it happens a lot that they see 3 on the ultrasound (I've had an MRI also) and they find more when they get in there. Good luck a Cy (in Ohio) > Hey everyone! > I was just thinking... Guest guest
Dear Kris, I remember reading a post about cm converted to inches. I believe the calculation loosely was 2.7 cm = 1 in. I also remember reading that a " normal " uterus is about the size and shape of a pear. Remember I am not an expert just someone who reads the posts. I don't think she was alarmed by the 12cm. I would ask for a saline sonogram to see inside the uterus. There are other tests also hystersonogram and an MRI with T2 differential. Don't be afraid to ask for these tests until YOU are satisfied with what you are hearing and understanding. It's your body. And like someone just said information is power. Once you have ALL the information then and only then can you make an informed decision about your care. Good Luck with your appt.
