Dr. Ponseti's clinic is very " laid back " , you'll enjoy the relaxed approach

they all take to it. Ponseti said once, " We don't turn anyone away " .....which

can make for a delay but they do try to keep on track and make you comfortable

there.

Mollie,

I think you'll be so glad you took the trip! We sure are---from Philadelphia,

no

less! We were there for a check up on Monday...sorry we missed you by a

week.

He doesn't exactly run on time because he doesn't leave the room until all

questions are answered and everyone knows what's going on. Also, it

depends on how many doctors are trailing around behind him that day.

However, they (Marie, Cher, Joyce, etc.) try to keep him on some sort of

schedule. We never waited very long but sometimes the appointments

themselves took a while. I would allow for a couple of hours just to be safe.

Have you condidered spending the night at the RMH? It might make it easier

on you. They are great there and they really are a " home away from home " . I

can't imagine our trips to Iowa without them. Of course, we weren't as " close "

as Chicago. I'm sure it depends on how old your other two are!

Good luck to you and . I'm sure you'll be very happy you took the trip.

They were always pretty much on time (give or take 10/15 minutes)

when we go there. If you are considering staying the RMH be sure to

call them ASAP. They don't make reservations, but they will put you

on a wait list - if you leave them your cell number, they'll call

you on the road to let you know when a room opens up. If not, they

will send you to one of the hotels (Ramada or Holiday Inn) that is

just a couple of miles away from the hospital. I think you end up

paying 20/30 dollars for the hotel room - they are clean and

relatively nice. Not sure if you're considering that, but thought

I'd pass along the info just in case. You'll LOVE Dr. Ponseti and

the others that work in the office. As a previous poster said, they

are very laid back, and make you feel so good. They care so much

about your little one, and treat them like gold. You won't be

disappointed AT ALL that you made the switch! Good luck!

,

I am already releaved that I am going. I feel a little bit more in

control.

The RMH just called me back, and they have space for me to stay

sunday night, and I will return to Chicago after my appt on monday.

I was just curious, not concerned, about how " far behind " Dr Ponseti

usually runs. I prefer Drs. who will spend time w/ each patient and

not rush. my other kids are 2.5 and 5 years old. They are good

kids, but I want to give my sister-in-law some sort of idea when I

may be home.

I was glad to hear you have spent time at RMH. I just assumed it

would be a grat place to stay, but I am happy to hear you concur.

How often do you visit Dr. Ponseti? Once my child is in a DBB, what

is the typical visit protocol?

The RMD house is excellent in Iowa City. If you knew us you'd find our pictures

on the bulletin board there :) We've stayed there for both my boys. When you

go in the front door there's a hall way off to your left, and on that wall is 2

bb's full of photos. I'm pretty sure my is on the 2nd one (as you go down

the hall), the handsome 2 yr. old wearing a brown shirt and tie with his name

on the photo :) hey, not that I'm proud of him....ha. If they posted it, I

sent them a family photo after we stayed with our 2nd son.

Mollie,

That's exactly how I felt ( " a bit more in control " ) once we made the

decision to go to Iowa. Our only regret is that we didn't trust our

instincts and do it sooner---we believed the " yes, we follow the

Ponseti method " lies at duPont.

The RMH is great. If you don't mind cleaning your own room (change

the sheets, wipe up the sink, etc.) it's a great place to stay even

for one night. They see so many cf babies there they really

know " the routine " . The only hard part I found about staying there

is talking to other parents who have children in really bad shape. I

thank my lucky stars that we only have a few " minor " problems like

club feet but I just want to cry for these other parents sometimes.

When we first went Devlin's feet were in the DBB also. However, her

feet were messed up. To begin with, duPont never even got the proper

correction. And, they had created a " secondary deformity " by over-

abducting her forefoot (she has atypical cf). I'm sure your case is

different, every one is, but at that visit we stayed at the RMH for 2

weeks while Dr. Ponseti casted her every few days (3-5). Then, we

went home for 2 weeks with her in casts. At the end of the 2 weeks

we returned to Iowa to have her put in the shoes. This was

at our option---they could have just sent the shoes to us. But, we

had such a terrible time with the DBB not fitting right we wanted to

be there for that step. Then, we went back again last week (2+

months later) for a check-up. There have been a lot of emails and

pictures in between, but that's all it's taken for us to have Devlin

on the right track.

One thing I took to the RMH that made things easier (you might not

care since it's only one night) is the baby monitor. It was nice to

be able to leave the room to do laundry, eat (only allowed

downstairs), etc. without worrying about the baby. For all I know

they may have them there for you to borrow---they seem to have

everything else.

Have a great trip and tell us all about it when you get back!
