Guest guest
Livi just got her dbb back on and we are having a heck of a time getting it to stay on... and a hard time getting her heel all the way down I think. I have heard someone say they cut out a hole in the back of each heel so they could see if the foot was down. can you explain how big to cut the whole? Has any doctor had any concerns about doing this? Thanks! Darby, mama to Livi 3/15/2004 bi cf casts thru 7/26, now in dbb
Guest guest
Hey Darby, I found the pics of the holes in Darbi's shoes. They're on this website's photos section under Darbi but I can't get there right now. I thought I'd lost them in my hd crash last week but I managed to find at least one. Are you subbed to CFPics? If so, I will send them there. If not - I can send it direct to you. You only need to cut it a little bit- but I don't know if it's prudent to cut the hole just to see or if it's best to leave the shoe whole and just push, push, push on that knee and tighten it down. I don't think it's a bad idea to cut it to check, but I do think it can be done without the hole. The hole does allow the heel to round off out the back a little, but after you go to new shoes without the hole that goes away. If however a sore is there, the hole allows it to heal without anything rubbing on it and air to get to it. I'm the hole woman here... but we only did it in that first pair. Didn't need it after that. I am going to be gone for a few hours here in a little bit. will be back before 4pm PST. Guest guest
When we cut the holes our our son's shoes, we just did it by eye. Start out a little smaller and then enlarge it until you feel that it's big enough for you to see. My index finger will slide into the holes without any problem. I really like this because the hole is big enough for me to actually feel where his heels are too, like when he's sleeping and I don't want to wake him up, or if I'm holding him and don't want, or can't, rearrange him to acutally look. I just feel where they are and it works well for me. Hubby needed to use a drimmel (dremmel?) tool because there is a hard plastic or fiberglass piece in the heel that's difficult to cut through. The drimmel keeps it smooth too, so there are no jagged edges. As far as doctors, I showed 's doctor what we did and he thought it was a good idea since it allows you to see that the heel is all the way in and allows you to check the heels throughout the day and fix if necessary. and BCF 03/25/2004 DBB 23/7 cutting a heel hole in the markells? > Livi just got her dbb back on and we are having a heck of a time > getting it to stay on... and a hard time getting her heel all the way > down I think. > > I have heard someone say they cut out a hole in the back of each heel > so they could see if the foot was down. can you explain how big to > cut the whole? Guest guest
ok - as far as the CFPics list, yahoo doesn't archive attachments anymore so you have to be on individual mails to see them. Digest and no mail don't work for that purpose. Check your membership and change to individual mails. It's a low volume list so far. I will send them to you though. Guest guest
Wow , it sounds like Livi and are probably going through the same things - they are only 10 days apart. Thanks for the tip, I think I'll try that - as Kori mentioned, I probably won't have to do it on each pair, but at least for this first one I think it will help so much. This is the 2nd attempt at getting her in this dbb - we tried about 8 weeks ago but her feet weren't big enough- it was a disaster and she was recasted after that... this time seems to be going a lot better. Thank you for all your help! Darby, Livi's mama bi cf > When we cut the holes our our son's shoes, we just did it by eye. Guest guest
Thought I would throw my 2 cents in. When we cut a hole in Kai's last pair of Markell's my husband just used a utility knife and made a rectangular window. It doesnt have to be a circle unless you need it for a sore! The rectangle was about 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch and it worked great. Angel
