Guest guest
Hello, I am re-introducing myself because I have been away from the group for quite some time. My name is Dianne. I am about to turn 60 years young. My husband and I have been married for nearly 40 years (July!). I was first diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in my late teens, but nothing much was done about it. I began having bigger issues with it in 1991 and was given Synthroid, but after eight years of almost no improvement and having no choice of doctors, prevailed upon my mother's doctor to switch me to Armour. I am now taking 120 mg a day and doing quite well. Recent changes in my health situation caused me to wonder if my thyroid had taken another "drop" in function, so I got new labs done and everything is good, so talked to the doctor and asked a bunch of questions, had more testing done, and then was told that I am dealing with Fibromyalgia, in addition to Lupus and localized osteoarthritis. That really didn't come as any great surprise.... My hair is doing fine -- growing well and filling in where it had begun to thin. I am taking lots of good vitamins, espeically sublingual B, Vitamin C, and Selenium. I have no idea which one is responsible for the hair growth, but even as white as it is getting, it is "better", if that makes sense. My nails are greatly improved and I am having fewer problems with yeast/fungus. At this point, I am assuming that things are finally coming together, and that time alone is going to be the biggest factor for improvement or the lack of it. I have days when the "fog" is present, but that could as easily be the Fibro or my ADHD, as it could be the Thyroid. I basically take one day at a time and hope for the best. So far, so good. It is good to be back! Dianne of the Desert Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out.
Guest guest
Human-wise, I really don't know on that one, good question tho. Anybody have any ideas?Spiff wrote: What is the correlation between yeast/fungus and thyroid problems? I just ask because I contracted a major bought of ringworm this past spring, right after my car accident and about the time my thyroid took a nosedive again, and I was hypo until we got to to our new duty station (add up hypothyroidism, whiplash, and moving halfway across the world and I guess you're bound to have problems of some kind!) and now finally my thyroid levels are where they should be and I feel a lot better, and the fungus is clearing up! I was treated with all sorts of antifungals back in the spring, from topical creams to internal pills, and they helped, but didn't cure it. It seems that recovering from the stresses and getting the thyroid under control were the only things that helped, though I'm still spraying on an antifungal spray twice daily, switching around the active medication often (Tolnaftate, Miconazole, etc) to keep the fungus guessing and not create a resistance since I've been battling it so long. But I was just curious about the relation between them, other than maybe just that the body doesn't have what it needs to fight it off while you're hypo, which might be as good of an answer as any, if there's nothing else real specific. It's always so good to hear about somebody on their way back to health, gives hope to rest of the group! Guest guest
I had ringworm once, probably about 20 years ago and never really thought of it as a hypo thing, but maybe it is. I was in Canada at the time and cured mine with Selsun Shampoo, not the blue stuff, but the orange stuff that you can get otc in Canada and by prescription here. It says dandruff and tinea versicolor right on the bottle. Tinea is another word for ringworm...
