Guest guest
Hi, I uploaded some pictures of my son in the photos section under the D. His name is Dylan and his pix are under- Dylan K 02-11-08 a-e on the very last page. I was planning on taking my son this week to the doctor and the banding place in two weeks. I'm starting to wonder if his head is even bad enough. It has changed some in the last few months. I started using that noggin nest a month or two ago and he got a " shelf " from it. You can see in the pix. I can still see some of the flatness on the back and from above. But, I'm wondering if I'm being too picky. I don't know what forehead bossing is, so if someone could tell me what that is. I think his head is better. And, I think his face is pretty symmetrical. Well, I may be biased. So, I'm wondering if I should even do it. He was a preemie and up to the point I started using the noggin nest he was completely flat from his neck to the top of his head. And, it was very, very pointy at the top. By the way, don't mind my laundry on the floor! Thanks for your suggestions! Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim, I looked at the pics. I would say Dylan needs a band. If you look at his head from the top you can see that the back is quite wide compared to the front. This part is called " brachycephaly " . It is the ration of the length of the head (front to back) compared with the widest part. The number should be around 80%. My daughter had severe brachy and was closer to 100%. You can see her pics before and after under Our Plagio Babies S/Sydney M if you go to the photos area of this group. In addition to the brachy, he does have some asymmetry to (plagio). I don't think you'll get sufficient correction without a band. Some people feel brachy is less important than plagio since the appearance is symmetric from the front, but glasses, helmet and other things will be hard to fit later in life due to all the extra width. Let us know how things go. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hi, > I uploaded some pictures of my son in the photos section under the D. Guest guest
I was thinking the same thing as . I would definitely recommend going for an evaluation at Cranial Tech or another active banding facility. Let us know how it goes. > > Hi, > I uploaded some pictures of my son in the photos section under the D. His > name is Dylan and his pix are under- Dylan K 02-11-08 a-e on the very last > page. Guest guest
I looked at his pictures and I think you should definitely at least go for a consultation. I can clearly see his flat spot on the back (brachy) and some facial asymmetrie. I have become very critical however since my daughter started wearing a band and see a lot of babies that I would get banded if I was their parent. But even if it's not severe and will correct a little more on its own, you're not losing anything getting a band and won't have any regrets later on. Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Hi Everyone: Thank you so much for looking at my son's pictures. It means a lot to me that others are as critical! I thought I was being picky, because some family members and friends think that it is no big deal. I knew about the brachy on the back of his head. But, the asymmetry on his face I completely missed. Tell me what you see, being his mother... I'm blind to some things. I want to be armed and ready to talk to the doctor this Friday. And, be able to show her what I (and you) see. Thank you again. All your responses made me feel much better about my choice to do it! Unfortunately, I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana. There are no CT or Starband places nearby. My doctor spoke of prevail orthotics. If anyone has heard of it? Or has anyone been to Hanger around here? Please let me know. I've been looking at all of the photos for days. Thank you everyone for uploading them. They give me hope! Thanks, Kim > > I looked at his pictures and I think you should definitely at least go for a consultation. I can clearly see his flat spot on the back (brachy) and some facial asymmetrie.
