Guest guest
I don't know if I like that, though. I think children should be able to relate to the commercials but, kids are kids. I don't think some of them are going to be able to tell the difference between real life and what they see on TV. So, an overweight child watches the commercial and believes that the only way he can lose weight is to eat at Subway. Then mom or dad says, " no...sit down and eat your dinner. " What a letdown for the child. What does that do to his self esteem? There must be a better way to teach our children. Like taking away the Doritos!!! It's about a kid who says when his brothers friends come over he hides in his room so that they don't call him fat etc. It is really sad. Then it talks about feeding your kids healthy at Subway. Guest guest
Hey at least they are trying. Teaching your children about eating right is the job of the parent. IT's not always easy, that's for sure, but it's SO important. I have a few girls with weight problems and they have shared how hard it is to live as a fat teen. Not that I don't understand! I lived it! In the UK the government has asked advertisers to stop advertising unhealthy foods during prime time hours. Apparently if they won't do it voluntarily, they plan to pass a law. Guest guest
I agree with you, Tory...teaching children IS the responsibility of the parent. It's just hard to tell them that they're okay when TV is telling them they're not. I certainly don't think that the advertisers should stop marketing their product. After all, they're trying to sell subs, not weight loss products. I just think they need to be a little more aware of what they're telling our children. The children need to grow up with a sense of self esteem, no matter what they look like. Tory Klementsen wrote:Hey at least they are trying.
