Guest guest
Faye, I didn't see the asymmetry untill I looked at the photo with his helmet on. I think that having the sideburn that close to his eye accentuates it. But afer I saw it, when I looked back at the other pics I could see it. Do you have any before the helmet pics to compair? My DS is in a Doc band, but his helmet and sideburns have rotated over the 5 weeks he has had it. When we first got the band there was a small v in the helmet that we would line up with his nose, so we knew it was on right. By the second week (he gets an adjustment weekly) the v was no longer in the center and it continues to migrate with each adjustment. I have brought this up to 2 seperate orthotists and they both said that that happens as they grow. But I would bring it up at your appointment. Since the start of treatment the helmet has not fitted properly, despite the orthotist's attempts to sort it out. There have been good results for the back of his head so far - his asymmetry has gone from 19mm to 9mm, but his facial asymmetry seems to be getting worse. The helmet has always twisted round so that his left ear gets bent over and the long bit at the side goes onto his cheek. Now it looks like the left side of his face is getting squashed - his eyes are different shapes and at different angles. I noticed it a few weeks ago but my husband couldn't see it, so I convinced myself I was just seeing things. Then my sister and a few friends asked me about his eyes, and I realised I wasn't imaging it. I have posted some pics of Luca in the 'L' album under 'Luca Joe'.. please could you give me your opinions? We have an appointment on Wednesday and I am going to talk to the ortho about it all, but I don't feel very confident about it. I have read other messages on here about the same thing happening and in one message I read that Orthomerica will provide a second helmet for free if the first helmet does not fit properly - is this true? We are in the UK and I wondered if the same applied to us? Any advice/help anyone can give will be gratefullly received.Faye, UK Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Hi Kami, Thanks for the input. Have posted another 'before' pic of Luca for comparison. Guest guest
I could see the facial assymetry in the 4 pictures I looked at. You mentioned that you posted " before pics. " Are those in the same folder " L? " I didn't see those or if I did I could see the eye assymetry in that as well. > Hi, > > My son Luca is 7 months old and has been wearing a StarBand for 11 weeks now. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your input. The first photo and the last photo of Luca are the 'before' ones and the middle two were taken last week. I know he had some facial asymmetry before the StarBand, but surely it shouldn't have gotten worse with it? We have an appointment with the ortho tomorrow, but I am really nervous about it. Guest guest
Hi Faye, I went back and looked at the pictures. I'm not sure if his facial assymetry did get worse with the band. To me, it seems like it has improved a little. Maybe it looks different in person??? I would definitely ask the ortho though since you think it has gotten worse. Good luck tomorrow. Please keep us posted. > > > Hi, > > > > > > My son Luca is 7 months old and has been wearing a StarBand for 11 > > weeks now. Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to give you my experience-My daughter wore a starband from age 9-almost 12 months. We noticed that the right side of her face looked like it was being squashed and several times we said something about it and they would do a readjustment. Finally we weighed the pros and cons and we decided to have her stop wearing it. She has been out of it for about 7 weeks and she's looking pretty good. She had a flattening on the side of her head caused by torticollis.Good Luck, PJlka_236 <lka_236@...> wrote: Hi Faye,I went back and looked at the pictures.
