If Tom's feet are not swollen when he gets out of bed in the morning, he

probably has the same kind of swelling that I and many others on this list

report. Mine swell within a half hour after I get up. The dysfunctional

nerves do not stimulate the veins to pump blood back up the legs, so it just

pools there. Also, either we don't walk very much, may walk 'funny', or may

not walk at all, so the circulation just isn't there to keep things pumping

normally. Compression stockings will help to prevent the 'pooling' of blood

if they are put on when he gets out of bed. It's also a good idea to keep

feet and legs elevated when sitting.

I had just the opposite effect. Every time my baclofen pump dose is

increased I see an improvement in the swelling in my feet and ankles.

Tom & Trish,

My ankles and feet do the same but my GP said I needed a water pill

and that would take some of the fluid off and it has quite a bit. The name

of the pill is Furosemide 40MG.

The Lasix may or may not help because the swelling is not so much a matter

of excess fluid in your body, but the fact that it collects in the lower

extremities because of gravity. Thus, the swelling improves markedly or

totally, during the night when your legs are elevated.

Jane Anne,

I know the feeling because my legs were attractive (so I was told by many a

suitor). Now they are swollen and even are two different shapes. My feet

remind me of two Idaho potatoes. I guess I'll never wear a dress again--just

slacks and not even shorts. I LOVED shoes and in my peak had more than 100

pairs. First the high heels went, then the lower heels, then the flats. Now

I live in my sneakers or slippers. Don't you just hate this PLS?

Dolores,

Yes I do hate this disease. I to have over a 100 pairs of shoes.

I will not give them away. I think someday I might get to wear them. (HA HA)

I am the same way with my clothes. I have so many nice dresses and suits

that I can not wear. I will not give them away either. I did go through some

of my clothes and gave them away and made so much room in my closet. Poor

he hardly has room for anything. All of my evening wear is one whole

close full. and then I use the other 2 for me and one I share with . I

was such a clothes horse, jewelry, shoes, purses, and hats. Now I am like

you tennis shoes. I do have one pair of sandals that I purchase at Lands

End. Those are cute. I also bought 2 pair of there tennis shoes that are

mesh and feel so good on my feet. You can wear them in the water as well as

out. I do not slide with them. The air you get from the mesh makes your feet

not get hot like the leather. Oh well so day we will get well.
