Guest guest
Welcome to the group. I wish when I had my surgery in 1990 I would have had both breasts removed. You are doing the wise thing. I will keep you in my prayers. I'm 33 and newly diagnosed. I went from no family history to a family history when my 24 y/o sister had breast cancer diagnosed almost 3 1/2 years ago. She was classified as stage II and thankfully has been in remission since. I went in for a routine diagnostic mammogram based on a physician finding a lump in my breast. A repeat exam the week later the lump was not palpable anymore. Erring on the side of caution the physician ordered the mammo anyway. He explained that with fibrocystic breasts often times lumps do come and go so needless to say I was not prepared when the radiologist called me back for a mammotome biopsy. The path came back with DCIS with cribiform and solid cells with comedo necrosis. I've researched and have gotten really upset at interpreting the path report. I have decided that based on our strong family hx. and not wanting to potentially deal with this again I am having both breasts removed. I have 2 young children (4 and 7) and want to be here when they get old! I am so grateful for this website as I can connect with others who share similar feelings. I am trying to take a day at a time instead of projecting what the final path will be but I'm afraid of the results. I purchased a book called, " The Cancer Vixen " and it has at least provided some comic relief despite the stress of the unknown. I hope to learn a lot from all of you as well as be an " ear " to hear from all of you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi, - I found Taxol was the worst part of my treatment. I had 4 doses, three weeks apart, in September to November 2005. The horrible bone pain in my legs came three days after each dose and lasted for three or more days - I had to stay in bed and live on pain killers - my toes and fingertips went numb (and still haven't come back after nearly a year) - and all my hair fell out (that came back about two or three months after the end of the Taxol. None of the other chemo drug side effects have lasted as long. Taxol was my worst. Caelyx (liposomal doxorubicin), cyclophosphamide, Taxol, Navelbine, Neulasta, surgery, radiation, and now Xyloda (chemo tablets) and Arimidex - tried them all over the last 17 months, and I'm still surviving! Good luck with going back to work. The other ladies will be able to tell you about pain relief available in the US. Love, Margery. ============================================ margery@... in North Herts, UK ============================================ > new to site > > hi, my name is michelle, i have stage 3 breast cancer, i had > my right breast removed april 17 2006, my last chemo was > 8-30-06,my last 4 treatments were taxol, did anyone else have > the pain and numbness in their feet? i have to go back to > work soon and need to know if there are any ways to keep the > pain down, i;ll be on my feet 7 hours a day and i;ve already > tried acupuncture it helped a little thank you michelle >

Guest guest
I have been reading for a while but decided to jump in now. I am in Savannah, Georgia. I am just starting the process. My insurance requires I do a six month diet/exercise program before they will pay for the surgery. Hopefully I begin next week. I am a Registered Nurse and at the time I was diagnosed I was working night shift in the ER. Now I'm doing homecare, which I had done before, but I have been seeing many cancer patients and it has blessed my socks off to be able to help them in a way I was never able to do before. So for me cancer touched my life in such a way that I may help others get through it. Thanks, Deena >
