Guest guest
We got dumped with 25 inches of snow. In 16 hours. Although I am in " the land of ice and snow " , we don't get storms like this. Getting a foot at once is rare. They have had an Emergency condition here since dawn. Even the plows aren't on the highways. This has NEVER happened in my lifetime and I'm 37. By some miracle, despite 50 mph winds, blizzard conditions, whiteouts and monstrous amounts of snow, the power hasn't gone out. I couldn't get out of my driveway, even by foot because THERE IS AN 8 FOOT HIGH DRIFT IN IT. Can't get out the front door.I have this other amazing 8 foot high drift that looks like a scupture that I hope i can get a pic of, if the wind and snow ever stop...It is amazing. It has all these seemingly impossible angles and overhangs and is about 30 feet across The airport is closed (another rarity). The Confederation bridge is closed for only the second time (Connects PEI with mainland and with their airport closed they are completely cut off from the rest of the world. You can't get on or off the island). You know it's bad when little Nova Scotia gets mentions on the Boston NBC channel and on CNN...WHen they plow it comes right back in. The hospital and a gas station are all that is open here. I don't think Tim Horton's is open - you know its got to be a near disaster when that happens (TIms is like Starbucks but less crazy prices. We have 3 of them in a town of 4000) Pray the power doesn't go out tonight. We are getting a wind chill of -16. I started having some bleeding from my bowel so since I can't get out of my driveway, no traffic is moving; it would be a disaster if anything got worse. They are making the plows go on 911 calls ahead of emergency vehicles when they are able, which I have never heard of happening. Nothing but plows and emergecny services and peole like hospital personnel are supposed to be out (provided they acn get out to begin with). Like I said, it is unbelievably bad here. One radio reporter said the last storm of this magnitude was in 1970. This is the kind of storm that can kill, esp the elderly or people who are isolated and have no way of getting anywhere if the heat goes. For anyone in Canada with the weather channel, the storm has been on there almost non stop since dawn. We obviously have weather that belongs to someone else. Perhaps residents of Antarctica...Please take it back... Someone, get me outta here. FAST! Somewhere warm, like Florida Joyce
