Hi ,

How odd... I have a bottle of generic benadryl here, and it only

contains the diphenhydramine HCI... Maybe one of the nurses on this

list can shed any light on it? Liiiiiiiisa......

Well,

Maybe I misunderstood the pharmacist. I know benedryl is used for sleep in the

hospital, as well as things like itching from meds. Well, any allergic

reaction.

I probably just didn't understand what he was telling me at the time.

Either way, I've heard many times that benedryl is safer to take for sleep than

the " sleep " meds.

It sure does make me tired when I take it.

Hi all Benadryl is the same drug as Diphenhydramine HCL.

It makes me tired too plus a dry mouth, but I just can't stand the Melatonin

others were talking about. Vivid nightmares and don't want to wake up even

worse than the Benadryl.

Hi ,

That sounds awful... Here in Norway you have to have a prescription

to get Melatonin. They say that it is not as " innocent " that some

want it to be. I bought a bottle in the US to try it, because some

were so very happy with it, but it had absolutely no effect on me

whatsoever. So I never used it again...

I could not agree more. It is so important to check such things. I am

always careful in reading the package inserts and also check the drug

catalogue. I also always check for possible drug interactions, that

is so important. When I first went online, it was very confusing,

because they use such different drug names from one country to

another too. In some cases even the generic names vary (e.g.

acetaminophen is called paracetamol here). We have a really strict

Drug Administration here, even more so than in the US. We don't get

many drugs OTC, not anywhere near what you do in the US. In one way

it is a good thing, but... Just a little while ago they started

allowing a few things to be sold in supermarkets (Cold nasal spray,

Tylenol, Aspirin etc., but not much more), but it is still so new I

haven't seen anything in the stores yet. The reason for this has been

that they mean that when you get even OTC drugs, you should have the

opportunity of getting guidance by a pharmacist about the use of the

drug... It does make sense, but at the same time it seems very

convenient to be able to buy things while shopping for food....
